Its already more than 2 weeks since STPM results released and soon SPM results come next. Around these time, education fairs and scholarships start popping out and students are busy with the procedures. As for me, opportunities are available. If plan A fail, there is always plan B. The only thing that has been irking me is; my inability to make a dynamic decision with my career. Hopefully I won't be fickle-minded.

There are times where I wonder, the insecurity faced by students who excel in STPM. Lets start with students who got cgpa 3.835(2A and 2A-), 3.833(3A and 1B) and 3.92 (3A and 1A-). These group of students are often neglected especially in their choices for competitive courses like medic, pharmacy and dentistry. Why is that? Let's look at University of Melbourne prospectus, if u were to obtain cgpa 3.8 and above, you will definitely get a place there (of course you need $$$ ;-) ). On the other hand, if you have cgpa 4.0 (4A), you are not guarantee to have a place in either Malaysia universities available. 90% of your entry requirement is contributed by your cgpa while 10% is contributed by koku. Who would have thought the 10% of koku could be so salient. Mind you University of Melbourne outrank Malaysia unis. I could not possibly fathom one logic which is; a better uni require a lower cgpa while a lesser uni require a higher cgpa.

As for koku, I would often look at the perspective what I learnt during math lessons. THE MICRO and MACRO PICTURE. Look at the micro picture 1st, the school is the one who is in charge of distributing the marks. If your school care for you, you will probably know how they will help you, if not, too bad. As for the macro picture, I would say that government policy are the reasons why koku mark has become either "helpful" or "hindrance" to students.

Some would claimed that without strong moral values, there is no point getting straight As. I would say that is not the worrying issue. The biggest threat to our current education system is its declining standard especially SPM. Have you ever compare the difficulty SPM in '70s, '90s and 2000s. Another issue that has hardly been addressed at national level is the gap between SPM and Singapore O-level. Our straight As seems pale in comparison with those straight As in Singapore. The constant declining of spm now could hardly be used as an indicator. Take me for eg, I constantly scored 95 and above in additional math during F5 but I got a low-blow during my upper six trial exam when I only scored 48 for pure math!!! If I had choose my additional math marks as my indicator and a difficult math-related course, I would probably heading towards a big trouble. At least getting 48 for pure math is an excellent gauge where I actually stand.

When I look through TIMES magazine, I was intrigued by the article, "5 Things America Should Learn From China". One of the concerning issue is China's accelerated growth in not only economy but education. The most concerning trend happening is China's top students apparently are really studying 24/7 and could not comprehend the meaning of "play" or "tv". To them its a routine to study. If the American think-tank are concern with this trend, how should we feel? One can only wonder the answer.

Frankly speaking, I almost forget that Friday is a schooling day as I presumed that its a full-fledged Monday-Friday holiday. Luckily I was reading through Teck Peng's blog and found out. I was thinking thoroughly and quite surprised that Friday is a schooling day. Upon reaching the gate, I wasn't surprise to see some people were wearing masks. Again the school never fail to surprise me; there is an assembly.

First, I whole-heartedly support with the school holiday idea. After all there are rumors saying 18 or 80 people contracting the symptoms related to H1N1. Safety first. But does the school put on their thinking cap. The aggregation of students in the quad is probably the last thing we need. If they want to check the temperature, do it at the entrance (somewhere where you don't block the incoming cars). I sure hoped there is no assembly on Monday. If there is, most probably we need to take our own precautions. If you noticed one thing is the school seems to be picking the pace to learn how our government cover their "track". FYI, there isn't any report or announcement made upon the fate of 18 or 80 people contracting symptoms relating to H1N1.

If you read the newspaper or online newspaper, you will found out that students having 37.5 degree Celsius are supposed to be sent home. However, the school seems to show more leniency in increasing the maximum temperature to another 1 degree Celsius than handing out 1 mark in our exam and koku (btw we deserve it). Apparently 1 mark in exam would make a difference but increasing the maximum temperature to 1 degree Celsius would most probably results in a catastrophe, for this case, you don't get to say, "Well showing a bit of leniency would not hurt at all". I am not really sure but maybe Cambridge forgot to lecture "How to Run The School When The World is Facing a Flu Outbreak".

Languish and Hope

A thought struck on my mind today, 1 yr has passed since I entered L6. Gosh, time does really fly. Less than 5 months from now, all of us will be relieved from our schooling life forever. Noooooooooooooooooo... I guess nothing is permanent in this life, but hey, instead of thinking this is the end, I kinda feel hopeful when I was thinking this is another beginning of a new chapter in our life. Instead of worrying about the future, I came to my senses and realised that I was never going to be happy if I worry too much about the future. What I should be doing is focusing my entire energy moulding the present for the future. Worrying excessively doesn't solve a single problem but it create another problem. Great JW, now you are a philosopher!!!

I guess after this holiday we will be getting back to our 'normal' daily routine. I on the other hand had decided to make some changes. I guess the the change I would like to make is is is... gulp... sweating... I am stopping dota until the ultimate battle is over!!! To my dota mates, sorry. This time is different, let's just say that I could not forgive myself if I didn't put my entire energy on this battle. I rather fail trying than fail for not trying at all! To my dota mates, forgive me once again, I knew that my act is unpardoned, anyway I still apologised. After reading my long-winding words, I guess u guys will understand and forgive me. Aight? Hahaha.

Relieved

Well, mid yr is finally over and it felt like a huge burden being lifted off. Now I am able to resume back to my normal and peaceful life again (least of all I am able to do everything without worrying about exam for a time being). Movies, dota, trips, outing, ah, what could be more beautiful than this sort of temporary freedom.

Trip was great, I wouldn't mind going for another school trip if there is one. Gotta salute to my comrade, CY. It ain't easy to organise a trip. You gotta do the calling, typing, talking, organising, etc etc. Well I am not a sentimental guy who is going to express my gratitude by hugging you and telling what a great job you done, but least of all, THANK YOU CY. Hehe.

Later trip ended, luckily the bus passed through the town center, I am able to get home without asking parents to fetch me back. Then, went EQ to have dinner and saw my old pal, Agil. Talked to him and wishes him best of luck for his final exam.

After dinner, went to grandpa's house. For the 1st time I felt the extreme heat in his house. Being there for over an hour. When I reached home, I started to feel grateful for having air cons in my rooms. I guess when we experience pain and suffering, only we will appreciate what we have. Typical humans.

Its about time I changed the blog's template. Gotta match with ppl like Nic and CY who are updating their blogs every now and then. Anyway, back to my life. The 1 week holiday seems like ordinary schooling days as our committed Math teacher aka Mr Khoo decided to give extra class for 5 days. Look at the bright side, at least we almost finish integration and we get to joke once or twice in his class. Only one incident happen where I accidentally banged the school's oil palm tree while reversing. I hated myself for being too careless, letting my guard down. Still, lucky there is no visible scratches at the back of my car. Otherwise, my parents would be lecturing me for hours, not to mention banning me from driving. Hmmm, as a filler to the post, I went You-Tube to search for Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core (must watch) and Advent Children. I just love Sephiroth and One Winged Angel music.

Man, I could sense failure is looming as test is about to start tomorrow. How could have thought that we have at least 18 chapters to cover for one monthly test. To make matter worse, my body has been aching for the last few days. Agony. Anyway, this test could possibly lead to my downfall. A part of me wanted to blame the teachers and Ministry of Education for creating a tough F6 life. THEN AGAIN, I am the one who chose this path and I have to bear the hardships along the way. Like what Madam Teo said, "A winner never quits and a quitter never wins." Enough of whining, time to "fight".

PS : Look forward to defeat Avernus, Brood, Tide, Enchantress and Drow after this test.

MHS Great Emulation

It's almost a month since school reopen. As expected, the amount of workload increased in a gargantuan rate. Despite my obsess with studies, I nevertheless observe and analyse the the ongoing in MHS. Sadly speaking there are certain unsatisfying issue I like to bring up.

I usually enter the school via front gate. There are 3 front gates, actually, i.e 1 main gate and 2 side gates. Its been a habit since Lower 6, I enter the school through the side gate because the main gate is the road for cars to enter. However, during the 1st day, the new guard had placed his cozy bench and chair at the side gate which I usually enter. The bench and the chair has become an obstruction to students passing through the side gate. We usually have to squeeze through to enter the school. Seeing this obstruction, I started to enter the main gate. However, the main gate is also the passage for cars to enter the school. On the eventful Friday morning, I entered the school via main gate again. It so happen one of the teacher (I avoid naming the said person) stood at the school, calling me. He started to ask me to get out of the school and stated that I am a Form 6 student, right in front of all the students including the prefects. That's what make my blood boil. Throughout my entire schooling life, I HAVE NEVER BEEN CHASE OUT OF THE SCHOOL right before all the junior students. He chased me out and asked me to enter again via the side gate. His action of asking me "to get out and enter again" appear as if he is challenging my maturity as a F6 student and my intelligence. Even you want someone to do your bidding, ask nicely or ask he or she not to repeat it again. Before investigating the reason, he obnoxiously chased me out. I suggest that next time he better remove the bench and chair in the guard house or even ask the guard not to sit when students want to pass through the side gate.

About the guard who placed the chair and bench, he is irking and obnoxious. During the school holiday, I was busy doing the bio project in school until 6.00 pm. As I recalled, I started to wait at the Principal's parking lot to avoid the sun. Not that I am a sissy or anything, but why risk producing unnecessary melamine. Then the principal left the school not before greeting me. Then, the guard came along and asked me to leave the school, simply because he wanted to close the gate. Okay, fine by me, I left and waited under the hot sun. After 5 minutes, the guard was listening to his music and never close the gate. I immediately stormed back and he asked me, "Kenapa masuk lagi?". I retorted him cheekily, "Saya punya pasal". At that point, I clutched my net strongly, readying myself to wallop him and glancing at him sharply. As expected he refuse to look at me and continuing his business. I don't mind leaving the school and wait under the hot sun for you to lock the gate. But, if you aren't locking the gate, DON'T ASK ME TO LEAVE!!! If a teacher were to wait inside the school like what I did, I prepared to bet he won't even dare to ask. Just because I am a student who happen to have a fair skin, do not expect me not retaliate back when I am being bullied. Ask Chun Yian, his opinion about the new guard.

Last week, it so happen I received back my MUET result. To my relieve, I managed to secure band 5. What irk me most is, the school forbid those who do not plan to retake MUET to stop following the MUET lesson. I cannot see the logic in this policy. Why can't we do our homework, revise or rest during MUET lessons since we are not retaking it? I could direct my energy doing homework or revising instead of wasting the 4 hours of lesson, since I have no intention of retaking it again.

Perhaps the most controversial issue is none other than, I am being fired from MPP. Contrary to the events above, I was overjoyed. Allow me to elaborate. MPP is a student council body whose position is higher than the school prefect. I joined it last year for the sake of extra-curriculum marks. However right before a day where we will be officially elected as a MPP member, along with prefects and other student leaders, the MPP teacher advisor fired us, after receiving order from the principal. I was outrageous. The reason why I was fired is simply because the principal wanted to create a quota, limiting the number of MPP members. In other words, out of 18 F6 students who joined MPP, only 6 are selected. If he wanted to create a quota, why he could not do it before we enter MPP or when the new L6 enter the school. If he fired us, what are we suppose to join now? Even we can join a high-ranking body or society, we cannot build our foundation to grab high post anymore. That could seriously undermine our extra-curriculum marks. The teachers said the school would pay us the money for the coat we bought. But that issue doesn't interest me one bit at all. What I am concern is, what will happen to my koku marks now. To my delight, as the head prefect a.k.a. Sanjiv entered the room, he immediately proposed the idea of paying us koku marks back as a form of compensation. He speaks like Obama, he admires Obama and he even think like Obama. Unlike the rest, Nicholas and I were whopping with joy. What could be more rewarding than being fired and receive the koku mark as a compensation to us. Let's hope the principal will agreed to it and decide not to hire back a few MPP members back for the sake of preventing us from getting the marks.

Another thing I would like to comment is, the comment given by the school regarding academic and extra-curriculum. The school love to comment that there is no point getting excellent results but you cannot excel koku. To make matter worst, all competition that require the students to pay money to participate cannot be included in your koku marks and only government-organised competition are allowed. Unlike previous year whereby unrelated competition can be included in the society you wished to place, the policy has been abolished last year. We are taking an exam which is harder than A-level (possibly the most difficult exam in the world) and yet we need to take extra-koku unlike college students. No that I have anything against people who joined koku actively, but the school cannot grasp one fact. Instead of helping us to reduce our burden, they are helping us to increase our burden to test our resolve. They thought that STPM requires a lot of hardwork. No STPM does not require a lot of hardwork, but a lot, a lot, a lot,..., (n-1)a lot, (n) a lot of hardwork. The school cannot register the plight of F6 students. While our education system are falling behind, other countries are moving forward. Just Change.

KT Election

Kuala Terrenganu can be considered as BN stronghold. However, the 12th General Election has send a powerful message to the government and people. Makkal Sakhti (people's power). In other words, the people has finally awakened. No longer enjoying the majority support from the people, BN need to change its way to ensure it can continue to rule the federal government. However, turmoil continued in BN since the 12th General Election and PR is gaining a strong momentum.

In Kuala Terrenganu by-election, PAS won with a majority about 2000 votes. Although there are conflicts between DAP and PAS in the hudud issue, the supremos in both sides are willingly to discuss the issue in the PR meeting. Yet, BN is using the said issue to attack PR. Nevertheless, political analysts have claimed that the hudud issue is not the main factor that determine the outcome of KT by-election. Rather, it is the personality of the candidates that determine the outcome of the election. PAS candidate, Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut, PAS candidate appeared as a friendly and likable candidate. Nevertheless, Wan Ahmad Farid too has followed the same strategy. As mentioned earlier, KT is BN stronghold, however, the air for change since the 12th General Election is still "hot". That is the reason why both candidates have equal chances to win. Below, is the reason why both candidates will win (from Malaysiakini) :-

PAS's victory continues to strengthen PR. However, the hudud issue must be resolve. DAP has consistently go against the idea of whereby religion beliefs become the basis of politics. PAS however is adamant with its stand. How can the issue be resolve? One thing for sure is, if there are no solution achieved, DAP might resign from PR when PR gained sufficient MPs to change the federal constitutions.

Global Financial Crisis Part 2

"The fall of index in stocks led to slow economic development". The statement posted on the previous blog is quite ambiguous. I prepare to admit that fall of stock index ISN'T the ONLY contributing factor to downturn in economic development, BUT, to say that stock market does not influence the economic development, is untrue.

In September, as I was burning the midnight oil as usual, I happened to switch on the TV to check the latest political development in Malaysia. However, the channel was switched to CNBC. It was the day where Lehman's Brother announced its bankruptcy. It was then, I found out that the fall of Freddie May, Fannie May, Lehman's Brother, Meryll Lynch etc sparked a liquidity crisis, aggravated by the "the boom then the burst" of housing bubble and a deepening European recession. Since the banks are tattered in the web of loans, the banks around the world are dragging down on another. The confluence of the events meant one thing, $6.5 trillions had disappeared within days from the investment world.

How on earth $6.5 trillion disappeared? Lets start with ordinary people. Mr A invest his money in an investment firm. Investment banks basically like Lehman's Brother had bad debts. The debts amounted $100 billion as the people are unable to pay their loan due to the housing bubble. However instead of disclosing the bad debts, the said investment bank continue lending money to ordinary people to avoid liquidity crisis. Let's not forget about Mr. A. Mr A is unable to receive the profits he gained from his investment through the said investment bank. This is what happen to the investors. Later the investment bank declared bankruptcy. It was then, many investors like Mr A suffered huge losses from the investment. Other investors who are investing started to panic and withdraw money from the banks when they found out what happen in US and Europe. These events caused the fall of index in Dow Jones. Each country's stock market started to fall after what happen to Dow Jones.

Basically a public-listed company rely heavily on blue-chip stocks. These stocks are bought by ordinary investors. When investors bought it, the money will be use by the company to carry out its operation. However, when the financial crisis strike, the country's index like KLCI (Malaysia), Han Seng (Hong Kong), SGX (Singapore) etc fall. The fall also devalue the blue chips. These public listed company had no option, after seeing what happen to the financial crisis, resorted to cut down its production and prices. When many industries did the same thing, the country's economy started to slow down. So, how could the fall of stock index, not affect the country's economy?

I would like to quote an example from Times Magazine :

Xu Lejiang says it's already happening. He's chairman of Baosteel, one of China's giant steelmakers, and since August, he has had to cut prices twice as demands suddenly cooled off. The era of rapid growth for Chinese steel "will be remembered as history," he says. The Chinese stock market has also been hit hard - its down by 60% this year- although the banking system is largely sheltered from the financial crisis.

Another good example would be - Great Depression. Great Depression is the world's economic crisis in modern time, that happen primarily because of STOCK MARKET CRASHES, which is similar to what happen today. When Wall Street crashes, it was so devastating that everyone who bought stocks in 1929 losses everything. Even Warren Buffet's mentor, Benjamin Graham losses most of his assets. The decline in stock market in 1929 and Great Depression is classified as financial crisis.

What is "Global Financial Crisis"?

To put it in a layman's thinking, global financial crisis is a gargantuan financial crisis which involves in the "collapse" of banks, especially investment banks, insurance firms, mortgage banks and most importantly, the decline of stock indexes.

Cause
How did it happen? Of course the crisis didn't just appear instantaneously, its occurrence is mainly contributed by

2. Politics in US which led to the relax of regulation and laws on financial institutions

Since World War II, depository bank and investment bank are two different banks which operate solely. However, in the 90's, the United States had imposed on the new laws and regulations which allow these two different financial firms to combine and carry out their daily operation. A depository bank is the ordinary bank as we all know. However, investment bank is a bank which generate income by selling securities and providing financial advices. After all, depository bank sounds much safer, since people pay their money back when they buy expensive stuffs like houses and therefore is able to cover the loss from investment bank, which is riskier but bring about more profits. However in the 2000's many people are able to borrow a huge sum of money to buy houses although they are unable to pay back the loan. These in turn create a boom in the economic especially housing estate. However, many are unable to pay their loan back and are forced to give their houses away to the banks. Now, the banks possess these houses which have no value as the boom had disappeared. Basically, the bank is suffering from losses now.

Example : You are the bank. Mr A borrow $100,000.00 from you. Despite his monthly income, you are compelled to lend him money because of the regulations and laws imposed. Then, Mr A is unable to pay the loan back. Now, you, as the bank must take his house (collateral). At the same time, people stop buying houses due to lack of money. The boom disappeared. Now, the house costs $60,000 (due to decline in mortgage value).
Profits = Loan + Asset
= -$100,000.00 + $60,000.00
= -$40,000.00 (loss)

Try to imagine 1000 people are unable to pay back the loan. the amount would be $40,000,000.00. However, in US, MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE UNABLE TO PAY BACK. Now you do the math.

This led to the fall of Fredie Mac and Fannie May. Later, Lehman's Brother and Meryll Lynch also collapse. Since Lehman's Brother is unable to settle its bad debt which amounted BILLIONS of DOLLARS, its insurer, AIG (arguably the largest insurance company) have to pay the debt one shot. However, the debt was too large for the company to sustain. In return, ordinary people and other company who bought the insurance from AIG began to panic and withdraw the money. AIG almost went bankrupt in a single day, if the US government had not intervened by pumping $40 billion to AIG. As a result, stock market especially Dow Jones start to fall, which led other stock markets around the world to fall and a chain reaction follows.

Effect
The interesting question you might ask is, "How does it affect me?". Of course pundits and experts have made terrifying depictions about these crisis. Yet, ordinary students like you and I can't feel the impact. Of course we are unable to feel the impact, simply because our parents handle our expenditure and expenses. The large difference between the current global financial crisis and the Great Depression is; there is no breadline across the street. Rather, we experience it when we are purchasing ordinary goods (if you are meticulous enough to notice) and the difficulty of securing a job.
Of course, as what my teacher had mentioned, there is a speculation involving deflation. The theory postulated is quite true. Contrary to inflation, deflation involves the decrease in the price of materials. Some of us would be whopping with joy, after all, when the price of oil decrease, followed by the fall in ordinary good, isn't it beneficial to all of us.

The major problem we do not perceive is that, we bought our the things we want through our income. Income is gained through the career we are involved in. The problem is, the fall of index in stocks led to slow economic development. This in turn engender the rise of unemployment rate. In other words, for many years to come (speculation), many young generations like you and I will be facing tough time in getting a job, that is of course depending on the career we are involved in. For instance, in University of Tokyo, there are brilliant graduates who are promised of jobs with high prospect by international companies. However, due the strike of global financial crisis, the said companies immediately turned their offer down and requested them not to come looking for jobs.

Well, for those who are taking business studies, economy studies, financial studies, etc will be facing a hard time in future. Even science students who are undertaking engineering, computer or etc courses face difficulty too, although demands and needs in science overcome the demands in arts line.

Thoughts of an Ordinary Student

Final exam is around the corner. I can't say that I am not worry at all especially MUET since I have no intention of taking it next year. Panic strikes whenever I start thinking about exam. On the other hand, I find satisfaction and calmness especially I start studying. I have no problem with studying with the exception of exam, that's all. Still, despite the stress and challenges I faced in F6, I enjoyed it.

Another thing which concern me is the upcoming long holiday after our exam. I was hoping that my subject teachers would give extra classes as long as possible. Well, if they decide not to give, why not give additional homework for us to complete in the holiday. After all, an idle mind is a dangerous mind. Well, I should be reminding the teachers to do that. After all, why must I keep the good things to myself, I should be share.

As for friends, I have no qualm to state that they are all fun and enjoyable once you get to know them, be it the old one or the new one. Thanks to Phillip's laughter, I no longer feel the tense atmosphere in the class. Thanks Phillip.

As for politics, I have no comment at all right now. Just wait till the next parliamentary meeting and I will post it after my exam.

The Sin Chew journalist who reported about Ahmad's racist remarks is detained under ISA. Even PAS leader claimed that it should be the latter to be detain under ISA, not the other way.

Raja Petra who expected that it is just a matter of time before he is detained under ISA due to the posts in Malaysiatoday.

The reason why Teresa Kok is arrested is yet to be seen.

Greatest Ultold Story of a Lawbreaker Becoming a Lawmaker

We heard about Anwar, Abdul Hadi Awang, Nik Aziz, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Karpal Singh and etc. (opposition leaders), but did anyone know who is Chua Tian Chang or commonly known as Tian Chua? Frankly speaking, I don't even know who he is after reading some of the biggest events that happen in our country in year 1999. Well, I managed to find an article from Star Online to describe the life of this young man. Feel free to leave a comment what you think about him after reading the article.

He is one of Malaysia’s best-known activists for human rights and political reform. Yet little is known about Tian Chua, Parti Keadilan Rakyat information chief and newly elected MP for Batu. He shares his life’s story for the first time.
ON April 14, 1999, images of a young, scrawny Chinese man sitting defiantly before a Federal Reserve Unit water cannon truck sent to disperse pro-Anwar Ibrahim protestors were flashed around the world.
In Malaysia, people wondered who this strange man was. They soon got a name to the face: Tian Chua.

In the years before and since that incident, Chua – whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, meaning “to fortify” – has consistently fought for justice and human rights, including throwing himself into protests and demonstrations.
In the eyes of the authorities, he was a law-breaker and he was duly arrested countless times, bashed about and even imprisoned.
But all that changed on March 8, 2008. Chua found himself catapulted onto a national platform and respectability when he was elected Member of Parliament for the Batu constituency with a 9,455 majority.
Up close, Chua, 44, displays none of that aggression and indignant anger one would expect in a rebel with plenty of causes. He is still reed-thin and boyish-looking, mild-mannered and soft spoken. He seems more at home buried in some dusty library instead of facing off policemen on the streets.
“I don’t get heated up easily!” Chua says earnestly when we meet in Petaling Jaya over dinner. “And please don’t call me YB (Yang Berhormat). I’m extremely uncomfortable when people address me by any title. Just call me Tian.”

He may be an honourable MP now but his troubles with the law have not ended. He has several cases pending, including a charge captured in local dailies; Utusan Melayu’s headline on Dec 12, 2007, screamed: Tian Chua gigit polis (Tian Chua bites policeman.)
That dramatic scuffle with the law took place on Dec 11 last year while Chua was trying to deliver a memorandum to Parliament to protest a Bill to extend the Election Commission members retirement age from 65 to 66.
Just how did a middle class Malaysian Chinese boy grow up to be such a non-conformist?
Early years
The eldest of four siblings, Chua was born on Dec 21, 1963. The family home was a single-story house in a working class neighbourhood in Malacca.
His father, Chua Neo Lai, 71, is of Hakka descent and was a rice wholesaler. His late mother, Chan Yuet Chien, was a Chinese schoolteacher.
His brother Tian Chien, 43, is married and owns an IT firm. His sisters, Thien See, 38, is an independent film maker while Thien Ting, 35, is currently studying and working in New York.
From young, the family was caught up in the ideals of democracy and socialism; Chua describes his parents, especially his mother, as “socialist-conscious”.
His father remembers Chua as a calm and steady bookworm who didn’t excel in sports.
“But he is very stubborn; when we asked him not to confront the Government, he replied that he was fighting for our rights. Still, he would walk away rather than argue with us.”
Chua studied at Siang Lin Primary School and Malacca Catholic High School. After Form Six at Gajah Berang High School, he went to study Agricultural Science in Sydney University, Australia.
“I wanted to be a scientist and invent things, like Edison. I got interested in the agro-sciences as I wanted to study things that could be useful,” recalls Chua.
But in his third year, he switched to Philosophy at the University of New South Wales. Australia in the 1980s was a hotbed for student activists. “My father had hoped I’d study law for good future prospects. But I became exposed to peace movements, environmental issues, and human rights situations around the world.”
He became an active student leader and his mates included Steven Gan and Premesh Chandran, co-founders of news website Malaysiakini.
Together, they protested against the imposition of university fees on foreign students started by Bob Hawke’s administration in 1985.
Chua had his first taste of arrest when he was locked up after a demonstration in Sydney. He was also recruited by East Timor then leader-in-exile, now president Ramos Harta to help prepare newsletters.
Upon returning to Malaysia in 1990, Chua joined the NGO Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) to campaign against the Internal Security Act (ISA).
Two years later he left for the Hong Kong based Asia Monitor Resource Center (AMRC) as a researcher on regional labour issues.
He then received a scholarship to do his Masters Degree in Employment and Labour Studies at the Institute of Social Studies at the Hague, the Netherlands.
After his studies, he took the long way home via an overland route. “I took trains, buses, whatever. It took me three months. It was the most enjoyable and freest time of my youth,” he recalls fondly.
The rebel
Upon his return to Malaysia in 1996, he was immediately caught up with the East Timor movement. Then the 1997 Asian financial crisis started.
“In Malaysia, we grow up and live in a culture of fear in the shadow of May 13. That fear has been built into our political system and has remained a part of our psychology.
“At the same time, our model of development had made us uncompetitive by the late 1980s. Yet, while Asian countries were suffering from the global financial breakdown, Dr Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim told Time magazine that everything was fine. It was ridiculous!
“Then cracks started showing in their relationship but we never expected Dr M to take such drastic measures,” says Chua who was then writing research papers on labour conditions for trade unions and was in the Suaram secretariat.
Anwar’s subsequent sacking from Umno and ISA detention were just what the alternative parties needed as a unifying factor to confront the Government in the 1999 general election.
“NGO activists brought DAP and PAS together and the Reformasi movement was born. It was bigger than we ever expected.
“You’ve never seen so many Malays wanting change. It was a mass movement. People wanted change for economic and ethical reasons.”
In 1999, Tian decided to join the newly formed Parti Keadilan Nasional headed by Anwar’s wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and was elected national vice president.
“It was not so much because of Anwar but the principle of opposing the use of ISA that I became actively involved in the Reformasi movement,” Chua explains.
“The Government needed to be changed and we had to start somewhere. If Anwar was ready to do that, then I was prepared to join him. I met him just once in his house before his arrest. I had no chance to see or talk to him after that. I joined Keadilan as the token Chinese member!”
Chua is frank that “while he (Anwar) was in government we didn’t think much of him” but believes he is a changed man.
“People go through different stages of life. I knew him when he was totally down. It’s the people who have made Anwar who he is now.”
(Interestingly, Anwar was the first person Chua called after he won his Batu seat.)
In 2004, Keadilan merged with Parti Rakyat Malaysia to form Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Chua was appointed its information chief, a post he has held since.
By then, he was quite famous – that photo of him defying a water cannon truck had stuck in many people's minds.
He is surprised when asked if it was a tactic to attract attention. To him, what he did was nothing new; he was doing what other activists for change before him had done.
“I merely followed the peaceful protest and non-confrontational approach as practised by Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi.
“We need to confront the powers-that-be but avoid violence yet at the same time. “The objective is to appeal to the human goodness in even a very agitated opponent.
“(By sitting down) it enables the aggressors to see that we’re not running around and there is no need to fear us. I was confident the truck driver would not run me over. He is after all a human being too.”
But his confrontational style can be, as MCA Youth vice-chairman Chew Kok Woh says, disturbing.
“Tian Chua is a radical. Most Malaysians find his style disturbing. He lost previously but because of the euphoria this time, he has been elected,” observes Chew.
Chua's tactics have also not gone down well with others as well: He's been described as a “real nutter” and a “drama queen”. One blogger felt that Chua's Dec 11 arrest was a publicity stunt (http://obscure-thoughts.blogspot.com/2007/12/tian-chuas-arrest-he-wanted-it.html),
This blogger wrote that he was initially shocked at the level of “physical action” required to arrest him. “However, only after viewing the full unedited video, I (have) come to the conclusion that Tian Chua himself wanted the arrest and the subsequent publicity.”
Imprisonment
On April 10, 2001, Chua was arrested under the ISA and sent to the Kamunting Detention Camp for two years with five other activists – Ezam Mohd Noor, Hishamuddin Rais, Saari Sungip, Dr Badrul Amin and Lokman Adam.
At Kamunting, Chua kept himself busy by dabbling in his love for drawing and painting.
He drew the insects that entered his cell and made over 100 Hari Raya and Chinese New Year cards for friends and family. He had much time to read (including heavy tomes like Homer's Iliad, says Ezam who remains on very friendly terms with Chua after his departure from PKR), and learnt Thai, Norwegian, Arabic, French and Sanskrit, which he has mostly forgotten now.
“Honestly, we hadn’t anything to worry about. It was a good rest. Once we accepted the basics, it was okay. It was just the denial of total freedom that was hard to accept. We had to ask for permission for every single thing,” says Chua.
“When we started adapting to the conditions, the authorities asserted the fact that we were completely powerless. One day we decided to plant vegetables. As the plants were growing, they destroyed the plot.
“Kamunting was a test of my patience but I totally believed that one day I would be freed. It was this belief that kept me going. My father took my detention with some humour. When he visited me he said, 'At least now I know where to find you!'
To Chua Senior, his son's imprisonment came as no surprise:
“I always knew the day would come when he would be detained. When it happened, I actually felt it was safer for him to be in detention than leading demonstrations everywhere!”
Lonely warrior
Chua was released on June 4, 2003. Once out, Chua was back in form again. In February 2004 he was detained for being in a rally calling for police reforms and an inquiry into the deaths of detainees.
In March of that year, he stood for the Batu constituency in the general election but lost to Gerakan’s Ng Lip Yong by 11,000 votes.
Four years on, it's a different story. Since his election as MP, Chua has been besieged by calls for help from the people. An irate lady phoned to ask for her neighbour’s cat to be relocated as she couldn't stand the stench anymore.
People whose problems have not been dealt with for 20 years suddenly demand for them to be solved in two weeks.
But perhaps Chua welcomes it. One of the biggest casualties of his incarceration was his relationship with his long-time girlfriend and fellow activist, Mabel Au Mei Po. After his arrest, she was blacklisted and deported back to Hong Kong. They have remained apart since.
(In article posted on Aliran's website, Au writes how she asked Chua if there was anything special she could do for him in the event of him being a political detainee:
“Tian thought for a while and said, 'Nothing. I believe you can take care of yourself. I shall be happy as long as you enjoy a happy life'.”)
His home – a house in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, that his mother left him after her death from cancer in 2000 – is a true bachelor's pad.
It is sparsely furnished and there are watermarks on the walls from years of unchecked leakage during his detention.
Chua's dining table is buried under a mountain of paper and unopened letters and baskets of dried jasmine garlands presented by his constituents. A lonely looking catfish curled inside an aquarium in a corner of the living room is his only companion in the silent house.
Built-in bookshelves dominate the space upstairs. There are reams of fading, yellowed Chinese books and English titles ranging from Crime of War, What the Public Should Know, to 700 Years of Dutch Cartography and a beautiful leather-bound copy of the Quran.
His dressing table is heaped with hairbrushes, peanut crackers and a large tube of muscle relaxant cream for his frequent back pain due to a fracture he suffered during his detention.
Chua shows us several sketchbooks filled with penciled drawings of bugs, beetles, praying mantis and other winged creatures that visited his cell in Kamunting.
The finely detailed drawings include notations on the creatures’ anatomy and observations of a person who, frankly, had nothing else to do with his time then.
On June 24, 2001, he records, “8am, this Pelesek Grasshopper was spotted resting on a window frame.
“The next day, the creature had a “strange, sudden collapse at 9pm last night after struggling weakly. It stayed motionless when fed with a cricket.”
Others were quick sketches made during his travels, like Angkor Wat and Bayom temples of Siem Reap, and traditional dancers performing in Ubud temples in Bali.
“I really don’t have time for anything anymore,” Chua replies with a laugh when asked about his hobbies. He writes in a diary jam-packed with appointments and notes the old fashioned way with a blue ballpoint pen.
“All my assistants and secretaries left me after they too won in the general election! I’ve lost two PDAs so I have to resort to using a diary,” he explains.

In a constituency with the most number of Project Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) flats sprawled across problematic old areas like Selayang and Jinjang, will Chua be buried under a growing mound of petty problems?
“It’s unfortunate that in the Federal Territories, an MP also has to handle local affairs,” Tian says. “There is little avenue to seek redress so I don’t blame Malaysians for turning to their representatives for help. I will have to balance between serving the people, speaking up in Parliament, and continuing to uphold justice.”
March 8 was only the beginning of change in Malaysia, Chua believes.
“We all need time to put aside our prejudices,” he says. “In PKR, we do not hide issues but we confront them.
“I wouldn’t say that PKR is the finest party but it is the best platform for us. It is all too easy for us to imitate BN, like letting PAS take the Malay heartland and similarly for the Chinese to control the Chinese areas.
“We need dialogue and debate. In the end, we still need to seek out solutions that may not please everyone but are the most acceptable.”
Although he has been imprisoned, injured and lost his girlfriend, there are no regrets, Chua says. His motto sums up his life’s philosophy, which he puts in his website: La vie existe grace aux choix, or Life exists because of choice.
“Life is what you choose to put into it – mine is a natural unfolding of the choices I’ve made. I believe I am part of a bigger society and movement. We all are and we either choose to stay away or stay in it.
“I consider myself lucky to be doing what I am doing. I have been given an overseas education with free access to information, my father gave me his car and my mother left me a house. Given such privileges, I’d be guilty if I don't do what I should be doing.”
Chua has said he won't change his ways but now that he can bring his issues to the Dewan Rakyat, will demonstrations be a thing of the past?
Certainly, MCA's Chew hopes Chua understands that he cannot continue to be rabble-rouser. “The MCA Youth hope that he won't bring his antics to the Dewan Rakyat,” he says.
Penang MCA Youth chief Ooi Chuan Aik expressed similar sentiments, saying Chua must realise that “his days of street politics” was over.
“He has spent a lot of time in the streets as a student leader and Reformasi activist. I hope he has grown up since the elections.”
But Chua's good friend, Premesh Chandran, isn't betting on it:
“I am sure we will see Tian drive his agenda in Parliament, but I am also sure his days of taking the fight to the streets are not over.”

My son has always been calm and steady. He never argued, fought or raised his voice. Often he gave way to his younger siblings.
He was a bookworm and didn’t excel in sports! He was a prefect in secondary school and he showed quiet leadership.
When we cautioned him to stop confronting the Government, he'd say, “These are our rights; I didn’t do anything wrong, they are wrong to arrest me without cause or warrant.”
He is so stubborn in his ways. I honestly do not know how I came to have a son like him who so adamantly fights for what he believes in! But my son has never stolen, harmed, robbed or killed anyone; he lives an honest life.
When he was detained under the ISA, I already knew the day would come and had prepared for the worst. At some point, I felt maybe it was safer for him to be in detention instead of leading demonstrations everywhere!
Now that he is an MP, I hope he will abide by the law. And yes, it’s about time he has a family of his own.

Tian has always been a very sincere and earnest man. He has a strong passion for human rights in an unselfish way.
When Anwar was jailed, I could not ask for a more loyal friend. When he was detained himself, he patiently waited it out and during that time worked on his artistic skills, which I never knew he had. He is a man who has always been gentle but he dares to stand up for what he believes in.

I met Tian when he joined Suaram after returning from overseas. He seemed a very ordinary guy! But as I got to know him, I realised he is just determined to see change and to work for it.
As a friend, he is warm and soft-spoken. It’s nice chatting with him as he always has many theories and ideas. But it’s not easy getting to know his private life. He is always very composed and takes stress well. Even repeated arrests do not bend his steely resolve.
If he has a weakness I’d say Tian has the tendency to take on everything; he can’t say no!
The situation was bleak after he was discharged in 2003. The war on terror had started and the democratic space was shrinking.
Many felt that the Reformasi movement had died down. But Tian was determined to make it work. He went all out to rebuild cooperation between colleagues, NGOs and political parties.
It was his courage, consistency and determination to see change that inspire us. Not once did he ever lose his belief and vision in a multiracial party. I think the detention had only strengthened his resolve!
Mabel Au, former girlfriend,wrote in Aliran:
I remember Tian asking me what I would do if he became a political detainee one day. My answer was: “I will continue with my work and my life as usual.
Then you do not have to worry about me. You can do whatever you have to do for the Reformasi movement. Do you have anything special you expect me to do for you?
Tian thought for a while and said, “Nothing. I believe you can take care of yourself. I shall be happy as long as you enjoy a happy life.”
My heart sinks whenever I recall what he said. All I wish is that he can keep up his spirits and stay in good physical and psychological health, in order to continue the struggle.

Father and Son Teams and New Faces in DAP CEC

There we have it, DAP top guns, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng garnered the highest votes in the election of the party's Central Executive Committee. We all know that Lim Kit Siang had always been the iconic figure in the party and known for his fearless in voicing out his opinion in the Parliament, not to mention his long time serving in the party for more than 40 years. Indeed he certainly is one of DAP's prominent leader. In previous years, many would referred Lim Guan Eng as Lim Kit Siang's son. Today, ever since making his impact in the 12th G.E. and elected as the CM of Penang, Lim Guan Eng is making his own legend, a legend might not surpass his father's but a new legend following his father's footstep. Now we will refer him as Kit Siang and Guan Eng not Kit Siang and son.

The other father and son team, Karpal Singh and Gobind Singh is well received by the members of the party. Karpal without a doubt one of DAP supremo and well-known for his uncanny ability to debate, after all, he is a lawyer. Somehow, the members wanted to see another "Karpal" who is emerging especially after winning the Puchong seat in the election.

As young as he was, he left his IT company which is successful now to become the full-time DAP member. The members definitely wanted this young man to continue his excellent performance in the party.

Desperate Move (Decrease in Price of Oil)

Listen up folks, breaking news, petrol price decreases by 15 sen. Well, I guess everyone is happy about it. Hang on, hmmm, I thought the government said the price of fuel would go down on 1 September 2008??? Why have a change of mind? Another big showdown that all Malaysian is eyeing now is the P.Pauh Election on 26 August 2008. Wow, talk about coincidence, in BN, like what Lim Kit Siang said once, "Dalam BN ada banyak coincidence".

Let's review, one of the promises that BN made before the 12th G.E. is that the price of oil would not go up. Right before 100 days, the price of fuel go up by 72 sen. Now, Anwar being the biggest threat to our PM's admistration, had leave our PM no other choice but to offer more goodies to the people. In other words, the more Anwar in Malaysia, the more goodies we Malaysian receive.

If the BN expect the people to swing their vote back to BN, then this move to reduce the price of fuel is futile. The people do not buy this easily, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". The mood for change in our government is strong. Like what Lim Kit Siang once said, although BN might loss 2/3 seats in Parliament and 5 states for the first time, BN still gain a strong majority just like other developed countries. Instead of revamping policies and making changes what's best for the country, BN administration faced crisis after crisis and now BN look as if it is going to topple down anytime especially Gerakan after various top leaders quit from the party itself.

Maybe for the first time BN can be the largest opposition in Malaysia where it can be a constructive opposition. That way, Malaysia certainly benefit from it, after all a democratic and progressive country need a strong opposition to check on its abuse of power.

Look right up. Its Chong Wei, the only one Olympic medalist in Malaysia, whereby his medal is looked upon by the PM. Sure, Chong Wei is the only silver medalist in Malaysia and he is everyone hero. Well, its not a surprise, after all Malaysia dominance in sports is far from cry. Be it, gymnastic, football, rugby, swimming or cycling, we are hopeless. Still criticism is not something where we Malaysian take it openly. If you criticised any footballer, swimmer or badminton player, this is what they will retort against you, "You think you so great? (in sarcastic tone) Why don't you go fight against (the victor) him? Who are you to criticise him (the loser), you nerd?" In Malaysia, nobody will stand it if you criticise their idols/heroes. Try to insult David Cook or David Archuleta in MHS, see what will happen to you. They will do you worse than the Joker could do to you.

Back to the point, to Chong Wei, RM 300,000 and RM3000.00 pension, being a silver medalist and being born at Bukit Mertajam, Penang definitely is more rewarding than he can ever imagine. Its even better than winning against Lin Dan and wiping Lin Dan's irking smirk. Chong Wei will be receiving the reward at his home state (Penang), coincidentally the state where the fiery and ferocious battle between Anwar and Arif Shah. Plus, Anwar did mention about he misses Chong Wei's bouts. After all it must be something to hear that from the perhaps soon-to-be PM. Whether Chong Wei realise or not, he is in the middle of the political battle.

Dark Knight Movie Review

Hari Jualan is definitely fun and exciting, as well as eventful. I managed to help out my club and proud to be a part of my club's success in earning profits. The marching was brief but tense. Like what Kin Wee or Yeong Sheng said, "We are consider excellent since we only train for less than four hours." PBSM did a fantastic job, especially the leaders, i.e. Wen Jenn and Dominic did quite well in training the PBSM members and the members are cooperative. Overall, it is an invaluable experience. Back to the main topic, Dark Knight, I went to watch the movie with Chun Yian, Nicholas, Sanjiv and Yeong Sheng.

Usually people would comment whether the movie is good or lousy in a casual manner. Ok, I admit it, Dark Knight is an excellent movie, not just excellent, one of the most unique superhero movies I have ever seen. Now we come to the analysing part. Generally, most superhero movies are predictable, good triumph over evil. Good guys live happily ever after, bad guys pay for their crime. The Dark Knight take a different path. The storyline is unpredictable and filled with suspense. The interesting part is, "Did Batman really win? Did Joker lose?" Sure, the Joker is apprehended and appeared defeated, but for some reasons, I felt that his ultimate motive is achieved. He finally corrupted Gotham's White Knight and what Commisioner Gordon and Batman could do is, they can only reduce the damage caused by The Joker which ended with Batman chased by the authority.

Next, let's look at the technology and weapons used. Batman's new gadget, i.e. Batpod is way cool and sophisticated. Batpod is fast, mobile and filled with firearms. Plus, the batsuit provide more flexibility to Batman at the cost of being more vulnerable to attacks. Still there is a sonar detection in which white lenses appear out of his cowl. On the contrary, Christopher Nolan bring a different direction to the Joker. The Joker is famous for his use of deadly laughing gas and acid placed in the flower on his breastpocket. Apparently, the Joker in Dark Knight only relied on knives, guns and explosives plus a bazooka which destroyed the batmobile. The machine gun Joker used is to shoot is one of the best scene, totally love it. Well old conventional weapons still work well with the Joker.

Next, the actors' and actresses' performance is good especially the late Heath Ledger on his role as the Joker. The Joker he potrayed was insane, sadistic, psychopatic and have no empathy at all. So far this is the darkest Joker I have ever seen. It clearly resembles the like of the Joker in comic books. Plus, the Joker cracked sick jokes which are not funny but when you watch it, you feel like laughing because he crack a joke at the wrong place and wrong time. Christian Bale is excellent too in performing as Batman. I could not resist admiring when he went to a function with a few hot girls, driving cool sport cars and used his overwhelming large wealth for entertainment purpose. Aaron Eckhart definitely potrays the character Two-Face extraordinarily, since Two-Face resembles a good guy turn to wrong side, not purely evil but just misguided and went mad.

In conclusion, Dark Knight is the best superhero movie for 2008 and it is worth watching. Still, I felt that the Dark Knight is a dark movie. Children below 13 are inadvisable to watch, as the Dark Knight contains some inappropriate materials especially the Joker more menacing dark side unlike the cartoon you watch.

If you read Nicholas blog, you would get the idea of how difficult is Form 6 life. Yes, Form 6 is not easy, not tough but extremely difficult. At least that's what I felt. First, the level of the playing field is way beyond SPM, the STPM questions require a lot of thinking skills. If you have a one track mind like me, STPM is one of the worst nightmare. Frankly speaking, I dreamt being bombarded by tons of questions from my Math teacher. Phew it is just a dream. Still, the syllabus is too wide and the teachers aren't picnicking at all. Not only that, I could not even complete my schoolwork as fast as I once used to be. The worst part is everyone seems so intelligent where I felt inferior to their intelligence.

A few days back, I began to doubt my choice and wonder I did the right thing. After all I could just take some business, financial or economic courses where I would not be overloaded by F6 burdens. I began thinking for some time and I definitely made the right choice.

First, I have the opportunity where my friends who are studying in colleges and overseas do not have, i.e. school life. Sneer if you want, but when you finally start to grow white hair, among the things you say you miss is school life. Humans are always too complacent with their comfort until they can't remember to appreciate what they have. You might think I am a raving lunatic but when you grow older, you would remember what I said. School life is one of few things where money can't buy at all.

Next, I forgot my original purpose to go F6. My intention is to ensure that I would not go regret over the choice of choosing business-related courses. One thing for sure is the option for science students is certainly wide. You are able to switch to the art stream if you want.Besides that, one of my fundamental principle is to seek for knowledge despite my career might not be be related to the knowledge I possess.

I also believe that F6 is more than studying very hard to secure four flat. It is about discovering new ways of studying, it is about thinking differently, it is about making new friends and understanding people, it is about maturity and many more. Sure, getting four flat is important, but is four flat the ultimatum? Is it? Think about it again.

Finally, I believe that extra activity should not be just about getting good testimonial. It is about building up characters, managing your time well and have fun. For F6 students, don't feel depressed, getting excellent results is necessary but never a must. A degree or good result is just a passport to secure a job. To have excellent career achievement, is more than having excellent academic results.

Feeling Triumphant and Defeated

It all started when Guan Tor asked me to join the consumer quiz, however there is a catch, my team must try extremely hard to get 1st place which comprises me, Moi, Wen Jenn and Hannah. I managed to skip Chemistry class today and went to the office to pick up a coat. Looks kind of cool, but wait till you hear this. We went to the school by the school bus. Yes, the bus which is visible when you enter the school gate. Wow, 5 people including the teacher used a school bus. That add more pressure to me. Imagine what will happen when my team lose. Reach there and saw SFI F4 students including the person with an arrogant look i.e. Teo Wee Seong. Finish the test and waited for the results. To my disappointment, my team got 3rd placing (sorry Guan Tor) but at the same time we felt triumphant and good about our victory, after all we still get 3rd. Lose to Muzzafar and Tengku Rodziah. Go back to MHS and went home. Got to find out what I missed for my Chemistry.

Adios Ming Lee

It was a breaking news when Sharir's motion was supported by all the BN MPs. 129 BN MPs support the fuel price hike and 79 MPs go against the government's move. The opposition hoped to turn the issue into no-confidence vote against our PM. Interestingly, the SAPP MPs never turn up and SAPP leaders claimed they were "threatened". On other news, four MPs from the Opposition cycled to Parliament, indicating the increase in price oil which burden the people. How long will our PM retains his position? Will Anwar's dream becoming the PM be realise? What consequences will SAPP face? Those were the questions will be answered in due time and each day Malaysia politics get more and more exciting.

Impersonator in Alex's Blog

After reading every one's blog (Alex, Nic, Lem, Sonia, Teck Peng, etc), I find it hilarious regarding the impersonator in Alex's blog. What surprise me is that everyone is seems to be frustrated with this impersonator. I on the other hand, find it nothing more than a crude joke. First of all, the impersonator seems to be 'attacking' Alex's blog only most of the time. Second, the impersonator knows Alex very well by claiming that he knew where Alex live. Third, the impersonator like to contradict Alex's post all the time despite what Alex might said is true.

My Advise
Just ignore this person. Sometimes, people disturb you because they want your attention. If both of you cannot agree to something, let it be. It doesn't mean that you surrender, you lose. Sometimes, by surrendering, you win. You need not waste your energy, fuming over what the impersonator said.

Finally, I believe that the impersonator (whether is it the same person or not) have the right to use nickname but should not be using other people's name. Whether the impersonator is the same person or not, it will remain anonymous until someone figure out whether we know this person or not. Otherwise, this could drag on and on, unless everyone choose to ignore this person.

Intense Moment

Rorouni Kenshin (Saito)

Ever since I came back from KL last two weeks, I have been obssessed with the Rorouni Kenshin manga. I wanted to buy the manga at Borders but one manga is about RM27.00. WTF. Although the manga are imported from US, still with RM 27.00, it is too expensive. Hope that there is a BM version of it, since usually in version, the manga is cheap. Still, the anime is quite good and I recall watching it during exam time together with Yeong Sheng. One of my favourite scene and character, Saito.

Want Change But Fear Change

More than 100 days had passed since the 12th General Election. We can feel the tension now, somehow, the indestructible BN is facing the possibility of becoming the largest opposition party whereby PR might form a new federal government. There are excitement, most people want a change, be it the Malays, Chinese or Indian. All eyes are set on UMNO and BN component parties. Political decisions as always, could set an impact on our country's economy. The moment BN loss the 2/3 majority, share markets tumble by around 10%. A few days ago, when SAPP decided to leave BN, share markets declined. Still, despite majority wanted to see a new change, there are those who fear of the change.

Fear

Although 13 May 1969 had long passed, the 'ghost' of 13 May 1969 seems to haunt the mind of non-bumi especially the Chinese. There are times where we are intimidated by the racial riots. The moment we talk about racial riot, we would think about massacre in 13 May 1969.

A huge economic recession could strike our country, whereby a series of riots will occur the moment the federal government change.

The lack of experience by the MP's in PR to rule Malaysia.

Although many Malaysians want a change, we still fear of change. For example, during Mahathir's era whereby his leadership is cantankerous, in 1999 when Reformasi 10 was formed, not many want to vote for them. They were thinking, "Better to vote for BN rather than a party which has no strong core". Some just wanted a 'strong' opposition in Parliament which can act as an effective check against any abuse of power in Parliament. They still want BN to rule Malaysia.

Possible Scenario

Anwar Ibrahim get more than 30 MPs and ready to form the federal government. However, the PM of Malaysia would not easily relinquish his power, instead uses his right to ask the king to dissolve the parliament and call for snap-election. That is the whole fuss is about. Anwar might have a queen, a rook a bishop and a knight, however he will be check mated before he can check mate BN.

BN retains. However there are speculations revolving around Malaysians. There is two teams in UMNO, i.e., Team A VS Team B. To UMNO, the worst damage is not by Anwar but by internal conflicts in the party, whereby we can see Mahathir's dissatisfaction in Badawi. This scenario is Badawi manage to clung on his power before making way to Khairy, the rising politician whose sole goal is to be the PM of Malaysia.
BN retains. Team led by Mahathir oust Badawi from the Malaysia admistration and either Najib or Muhyiddin becomes the PM with the supervision of Mahathir. However far in the horizon, a man with strong principle, Ku Li, a lone warrior is rising fast too. But can Malaysian accept him?

Forget about the military administration like what is stated in Malaysiatoday. If the army were to hold power, there is no way that any party is going to get back the power once they have the taste of power. Besides, it is not the way how Malaysia operates since Malaysia is a democratic country. In politics, everything is difficult to say. One party might have be undefeatable, but the next day the party fall and one party can rise from the ashes and shine again. Still, the word democracy would be a meaningless word if we refuse to accept change albeit we want it because we fear of the repurcussions. If we want a change, the time is now, strive for the betterment of our future. Just Change It.

Lim Kit Siang

We have heard biography of our country's leaders ever since primary schools. True, their name, family background, education, great deeds and henceforth will forever be implanted in our memory throughout our life. However, have we ever heard of our opposition leaders' biography? Sure, despite what the society might think, there is no denying the fact that a true democratic country needs a strong opposition party. Perhaps some might consider that opposition leaders know only how to criticised, but when it comes with decision-making stuffs and rakyat's affair, they are no more than an ordinary human. Sure you are entitled to your opinion. This is democracy. In this post, you are able to read the biography of one of the opposition leaders in our country, Lim Kit Siang. After reading it, feel free to comment.

At 25 years old, Lim Kit Siang started to get involve in politics. Later, at the age of 29, he became not only Kota Melaka MP but secretary-general of DAP. However, his victory was short-lived, later our country was under a turbulence which tainted our country's history. Back then, Lim Kit Siang was at Sarawak, helping the DAP campaign. Later, he was asked by the police to come back to East Malaysia. However the flight between East and West Malaysia was suspended. He need to fly over Singapore. During the stop at Singapore, he discussed with his friends and supporters. Many against his decision of going back, fearing that his live will be lose. He must make a choice which act as one of the turning point in his life.

1st choice
Go back to East Malaysia, continue to fight for DAP's cause, face charges by the government against him and face the risk of being a target of assassination.

2ND choice
Stay in Singapore and live at there is a MP in exile and ask for political protection from Singapore. Safe and need not fear of his own life.

He chose to go back. In the aeroplane, he wrote a letter of will, asking his wife to take good care of their four children in case anything happen to him. It was no turning back. No handphone to call for help. No choice of asking the pilot to turn back the aeroplane. The moment he stepped down of the aeroplane, he faced life and death situation. A bunch of army were waiting for him and preparing to send him to a police station. It could be a political assassination. A slip in the finger, once the trigger is pull, there is no stopping the bullet. No shooting. He was safe. Glad. Presumably. But his trouble are far from over. As he travelled to the police station accompanied by the soldiers, he saw devastation. Fire, wreck buildings and carnage. The moment he arrived, the first word he said, "Democracy is dead." Later he was forced to go the detention camp under ISA in Johor for 18 months.

Later, he was again charged for exposing inappropriate arms dealing between the government and Sweden company. In another next few years, again he was charged for creating tension among races and arrested under Operasi Lalang and sent to the infamous Kamunting prison, ISA. Operasi Lalang is used to curb all the Malaysia newspapers for reporting Opposition's point of view. At that time, even Star's editor was detained for the frequently reporting opposition's view.

Back a few years, the government planned to place Parliament under the Department of Parliament (Jabatan Parlimen) and was announced by Nazri. Lim Kit Siang immediately protested and lauched a campaign to save the parliament. (It is interesting to note that Nazri attended the campaign) Later Nazri claimed that Lim Kit Siang misunderstood his previous statement. Lim Kit Siang stated that the Parliament must be preserve at all costs. The freedom, rights and sovereigneity of the country is protected by the Malaysia Constitution which can be amended through the voices of parliament.

Indeed, to list out all of his deeds throughout his life is impossible. He could have stay and Singapore in 1969, but he chose not to. He risked his life on what cause? Money? Fame? Power? A man of such as his caliber can make an impact on his success in his career. He can lead a decent life, but instead he chose to fight for what he believes in and suffered a great deal especially during time in prison. You can easily find a smart person in everywhere, but how often do you find a martyr? His willingness to fight for his beliefs, earn him a popularity among the Malaysians. Like Anwar Ibrahim, his overwhelming charisma is what that help DAP victory in the G.E.. His presence in a ceramah could easily raised the morale of his colleagues.

JPA Scholarships

I am one of the thousands of students who failed in the application of JPA scholarships. In fact, I had long anticipated that the chances for me to obtain the scholarship is very slim since my B3 in EST is the contributing factor. So it's fair to say that maybe I don't deserve the scholarship after all since I did not score straight A1. Well, I ain't a sore-loser, so I accepted the result. Most students curse JPA after they found out not only they failed in the first attempt to secure the scholarship, but also in the appeal for the JPA scholarships. Ouch. Talking about adding insult to injury. Hang on for a moment, is it fair to put ALL the blames on JPA because we failed to acquire the JPA scholarships? Think again.

WHOSE FAULT AND WHY?

Years back, I read it in newspapers that the government stated that being an all-rounders is more important than being a "nerd". If you score 10A1 and excel in your extra-cocuriculum activities, you stand a fair chance in securing the scholarship. It doesn't mean that you score more than 11A1, you are going to get the scholarship. The statement should be roughly the same as the one uttered out back in few years. But today, two scenarios caused me to start to doubt the truth behind those words. The first one I found out in one of the politician's blog. In there, I found that several top 10A1 or 11A1 scorers (as usual) went to see MCA representitives. One of the MCA representatives said, "Why didn't you take extra subject?" to a 10A1 student. Wow!!! That is like contradicting the statement made by our government back in few years. The next scenario is found in the STAR newspaper. It somewhat stated that there is this "unofficial" procedure, 13A1 and above students somehow automatically will receive JPA scholarships.
There are times where we love to blame others for our own mistakes, in this case this is no different. Like what the MCA representative said, "Why didn't you take extra subject?" After all, his words sound logic to me. If you are a JPA interviewer, who will you award scholarship to, a 10A1 student with strong cocuriculum or a 15A1 student with a moderate cocu achievement? Indeed, if we really yearn or desperate for the scholarship, why can't we take 1 or 2 extra subjects? After all, who cares about what you are active in if there is a brilliant student out there who scores more A1 than you? Back then, if we would have realise that the words uttered out by the government aren't entirely truthful, we would have realise the necessity in taking extra subjects, if we are desperate for the scholarships. I am feeling like an ass each time I think about it. What about you? Do you really think that the whole matter is not even partially your fault? If you think so, let me ask you one thing. How well do you think you fare in the interview? That is another reason why we shouldn't blame others ENTIRELY for not getting the scholarship. Blaming others is easy but blaming yourself is ENTIRELY a different story.
Remember last year, what do you think about the SPM examination? Come on, no point pretending, put it in simple words, "It's easy (generally speaking)". Here is an example why it is getting easy:-

Back then, everyone was happy. Yahoo. So easy. Got confident to get A1 or even A2. At least, that's what everyone think in their heart, though none express it out openly. To make matter worse, our A1 and A2 is based on the graph of the students' achievement over the whole country. I will give you an example again. In my former school, physics is like one of our strongest subject (mainly thanks to Pn Goh Chee Peng), we have several students who get silver, bronze and even a gold medal in Physics Olympiad. Take two person, the person who scores gold a.k.a. Khor Kai Zhong and the person who never take part in the competition, me. Now, both of us received A1 in our SPM. Just say, if Kai Zhong and I were applying for engineering course, how would the JPA interviewers know who is better than each other? After all, Kai Zhong could have scored 90+ for physics in SPM but I might have only scored 80+. Who knows? The result slip only displayed the grade only, not the mark. After all, do the JPA interviewers know who is Kai Zhong or me? That is why, it is extremely difficult for the JPA interviewers to pick the right person for the scholarships. So the whole thing based on other factors which include luck as well.

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BE UPSET?

Since you know how JPA handpick the students for the scholarships, it doesn't mean if you don't get the scholarship, you are lousy.
There is always other opportunities for you. JPA isn't the only option. If you are good, you achievement earn you to a top university or a top job one day.
After all, you need to serve JPA for 5 years, so your salary is basically "control". Not to mention the lack of flexibility to continue master since 5 years might be a long duration and pursuing master is what people are after these days.

Hard Work

As usual I checked out one my friend's blog and I certainly found an intriguing comments in Loo Han's blog, over his recent post on his appeal slip result and his JPA appeal result. Before I proceed, I hoped that Loo Han takes it easy and lightly over this matter. As a matter of fact, I knew that I could not get the scholarship despite I reappeal, so I decided not to appeal it as I know the effort will be futile. By the way, I happen to read upon Sonia's remark in Loo Han's blog. I never meet her face to face but heard about her from my friends lots of time especially on her remarkable achievements. Still, I want to express my disagreement over one of her comment (Tat failure shud help u work harder 2wards realising ur hope and dreams.), although I agreed with the rest of her comment. Let me enlightened you why I so happen to disagree that statement based on my experience. Right before our SPM, I am sure all of my former classmates were studying damn hard. When Mr. Lee asked what's wrong with Au Yong, Au Yong merely replied, "Stress". From that day onwards, he is associated with the word "stress". Even my form teacher can easily recognised the tension formed in some of my friends' face. I being one of the overzealous student in my class was no different from the rest. In fact, right before my trial exam, I became ill for a few times and even developed a bronchitis. My parents reprimanded me for not balancing my time well and even prohibiting me from studying. How irony. Other parents forced their children to study. Well, I can understand their intention. After all, who wants their children to risk their health for studying? But the effort was rewarding, I managed to get 9A1 and 1A2 for my trial and confident that if I keep the momentum onwards, 10A1 is within reach. I did kept the momentum onwards but with caution, for I feared the stress will further weaken my body. Then I finished my SPM, blah, blah, blah. Until I got back the SPM result, I got 9A1 and 1B3. I lost words. If 9A1 and 1A2, is still accepted but 9A1 and 1B3 is just too difficult for me to digest the fact. I could not possibly believe it. I mean what went wrong? I did not work hard? Loo Han, also get roughly the same result as mine but I believed that he worked hard too. Then it dawn to me that it's not our fault, but the people who set EST that year and mark our paper. EST no doubt stand for English for Science and Technology. But the last time I recalled, I got As for all my sciences and English as well. So isn't that good enough to qualify me to get at least 1A2 for EST? Although, the increase in the numbers of As is due to the questions set becoming relatively easier each year and I once heard someone said Malaysia produce the most number of straight As students. Still, I appreciated with the B3 for my EST. It teaches me to accept my failure gracefully. That failure also knock some of the senses out of me, that studying academic books isn't always everything. I began to learn to reduce my study time and find an even more effective method to study. I guess it's best that one be a all-rounder. Well Loo Han, I totally agreed with what you said. Cheers uncle.

A Little Update

I am not very sure how my friends are spending their holiday but here is how I spend mine :-
1. Take a light reading of my STPM books.
2. Read up fictional books like Darren Shan latest Demonata book and the infamous Sherlock Holmes.
3. Start going tuition.
4. Once or twice go MP and saw familiar faces.
5. Updating myself with global and national issues.
6. Watch TV.
7. Read up blogs. By the way, there is one blog worth reading which is none other than our old pal, Phillip. Nice posts. Brings back nostalgic memories when I read it. Lol.
8. Exercising vigirously to strengthen my muscle.

Well, I am going to miss holiday soon because school is reopening soon and I have to start experiencing the pressure of F6 soon.

Oil Crisis : The Inevitable Effects

The effect of global oil price, i.e. approximately US$120.00 per barrel has the cold feet of many nations across the globe. Malaysia is no different as well. Although our government do have the money to subsidise the petrol price hike, it is a matter of time before we faced another oil price hike. I found out from Malaysiakini around 8.00 pm that there will be an increase of 41% from the original price, RM1.92 to RM 2.70 past midnight. Not only that, the electricity tariff will be increase as well. Now we shaking with fear, not because we have to pay extra money for the petrol and electricity, but the INCREASE OF THE PRICE OF EVERY DAILY PRODUCTS AND MORE. Yes, in a short time, there will be no doubt that the food you consume everyday will experience an increase in price. Unscrupulous and sly people will derive benefits from the increase in oil price to compensate their earnings. Sooner or later, the people, you and I will be suffering from financial problems. Of course, the averaged-earning family will be affected, but those who are categorised by our government as poor will no doubt receive the full-blow from the impact of oil price hike. There appear to be a trend revolving around Malaysia. The rich (tycoons like Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan, Tey Hong Piow, Lee Shin Cheng, Quek Leng Chan and so on) gets richer while the poor get poorer. That is the impact of capitalism. I guess that to resolve such problems is not impossible but never easy. You just have to change your lifestyles (I guess there will be less outings from teenagers from today onwards). Yet, I remained puzzled with the cabinet's decision to increase the oil price by 41% today. If I am not mistaken they stated in newspapers that they will increase the price of oil at around August. Whether this is move is politically-motivated, this matter remain a mystery. Still, we have yet to observe the full impact of increase in oil price in Malaysia. I will be surprise if there is no demonstration. Speaking of politics, I will be certain that Anwar Ibrahim PKR de facto leader will be suing this issue from time to time, because in his manifesto, he claimed that he will reduce the price of oil, the moment he become the PM. Malaysia politics is getting more and more interesting.

The Current Situation Between BN and PR

Over the past few weeks I have been monitoring Malaysia's political situation by reading posts written by political analysts. The situations get more and more interesting each day. Before we proceed into the details, let's review the Malaysia Parliament election results.

Number of seats in Dewan Rakyat = 222
BN = 144
PR= 82
Number of votes for BN = 4,082,411
Number of votes for PR = 3,796,464
Percentage (BN) = 50.6%
Percentage (PR) = 49.4%
Leader of BN = Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
Leader of PR = Wan Azizah Wan Ismail

Little did we know that GE 2008 did not only cause BN to loss 5 states and denied from having a majority 2/3 in parliamentary. Now, with a strong political view, PKR de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim is more than willing to to form a federal government through PR. To form a federal government, Anwar Ibrahim would need about 30 MP from BN to cross over to PR. To my suprised, I found out from Malaysiatoday, Anwar Ibrahim had 43 MPs in his pocket. But there is one big problem. The interesting question is, "What is the problem since he had obtained 43 MPs from Sabah and Sarawak?" The answer is simple, there is always an issue of racial tension in Malaysia. Anwar did have 43 MPs in his hand, but does he have a balance compsoition of Malays and non-Malays MPs? That is the main reason why he could not form the federal government just yet. BN would be using the issues of political power shifting into the hands of non-Malays to erode the people's trust on Anwar Ibrahim. You might also want to ask, why he needed 40+ MPs? Simple, the figure of 30 is too dangerous for him to maintain the federal government. If 1 or 2 MPs from PR cross over, the federal government will be swing back into the hands of BN. So basically, Anwar needed 20+ Malays MP and 20+ non-Malays MPs from Sabah and Sarawak so that once he form the federal government, BN wouldn't be using the said issues to erode the people's trust on Anwar.

Next, we will be looking at UMNO itself. Most of the info I collected is from Malaysiatoday, not my own speculation. In UMNO itself, there is two teams, i.e Team A and Team B as it always happen since Tunku Abdul Rahman time. This time, Team B is led by Mahathir, Muhyiddin, Najib, Ku Li and Mukhriz against Team A, led by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. In terms of financial and support, Team B will always win. But, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has some "tricks on his sleeves" as well. Now what would be his secret weapon, I can't disclose it here too openly. If you read the newspapers, Ezam the top PKR leader had returned to UMNO. SPECULATIONS rumored that Abdullah will be separating ACA from his admistrative and giving ACA the full power to prosecute top politicians who were alleged involving corruption. Ezam will be the leader of ACA. Then he will open the files involving top members in Team B. Now Team A and Team B are busy preparing for the one-one showdown. Still, let's not forget that Abdullah have an effective weapon against Anwar if Anwar ever formed a federal government. Now, if we read Perlembagaan Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong have the power to dissolve the parliament. Then there will be a parliamentary snap election. Abdullah believed that this will work to his favour as the PM will advise the king to do so. Whether the king will do it or not or whether Abdullah will make this move if PR form federal government, that will be a mystery. Only time will tell.

Lastly, let's look at the RAHMAN theory.
N can be Najib.
N can also be Anwar. aNwar rhymes with N.
N can also be Khairy Jamaluddin. Why? Because N can be Nori's husband. Khairy's wife name is Nori.

Its American Idol Lossing its Rating?

American Idol, one of the top 3 shows in the season had certainly come a long way since 6 years ago. At first, the rating of the show kept rising over the past few years, but since this year the rating started to drop. Why? There are several reasons to it;

1. The songs given to the contestant is getting less and less challenging. In the season finale, there isn't any theme at all. Archuleta and Cook are given the opportunity to sing any songs they like. Archuleta chose to sing the songs he previously sang whereas Cook decided to try something new. Well it seems the Americans have no problem with Cook trying something new.

2. The judges' opinion hardly make an impact at all these days. Simon had been supporting Archuleta throughout the 3 rounds, Randy and Paula play safe for the 1st and 2nd round but later Randy proclaimed that Archuleta is the ultimate winner. Turn out, Cook is the winner. Well in this case it certainly proves that the people's voice rule. Besides there have been complaints involving the judges. Randy been known as somewhat impassion and less hot (pick up from the comments in msn). Paula Abdul as we all know, love to be the nice person somewhat contrary to Simon. I will be suprised if she ever give a negative comment. I mean, come on what is wrong with telling the truth for a few times. Why give false comments and confidence just to soothe the person's feeling? Its good to have a compassionate judge, but she overdo it. Simon, as usual he loves the attention of people hating him. Sometimes I could hardly undertand what is his comment about. Few of his favourite quotes, "Is just isn't yourself", "I gonna be honest about this", "I thought that was terrible". For some reasons, they hardly give comments on your vocal, outfits, reasons why you shouldn't be picking the songs (except that they just merely replied, "its just not yourself") and many more. If someone ordinary like me who isn't a pro-music at all can know what is the decision of the judge, I guess most of us can be the judges too. That is why the Americans hardly cared for the judges' comment and decided to vote for David Cook.

3. Somehow, we are able to know whats the programme and activities they are having. Its just that for the 1st few seasons, American Idol is just to good. I guess most of us is spoiled and we expect for more.

Don't get me wrong, American Idol is a good show. Its just its time for a change. Revamp the whole thing, create something exciting and something the audience couldn't expect.

Greatest Villians in Comic Books

Well I have been posting stuffs on politics, education, current issues and many more, but never on fictional stuff. Most of us love superheroes movies and of course we love the superheroes. Sure superheroes are cool, saving the day with extraordinary power and keeping the order of peace. Let's not forget, supervillains play an imperative role in promoting the fame of superheroes. We may hate, despise or detest them, but there is no denying that superheroes are just ordinary citizens without supervillains. In this post I would like to show you my favourite supervillains in DC comics, Marvel comic and Star Wars expanded universe. Lets start with DC comic.

The Joker
The Joker is regarded as the greatest villains all time by Wizard Magazine. You might ask why would a crazy clown is the greatest villains of all time. The Joker is no ordinary lunatic clown, he is a psychopath, mass-murdering, sadistic clown with no remorse or regret at all. Even among superheroes and supervillains, he was constantly feared for his unpredictable act. At one time he appeared as a harmless clown, later a schizophrenic and sadistic clown. Unlike other villains like Lex Luthor or Dr. Doom who wanted to rule the world, the Joker simply commit crimes for his own amusement. To him Gotham city act as a theater for him to perform his show. He acts as Batman's acrhenemy. Their relationship was rather unique. He defines himself as the opposition of the Dark Knight and gives up many chances killing Batman. He dreams of going a grand and final showdown with Batman. He also wishes Batman to break his code of ethics, never to kill by forcing Batman to kill him through hurting Batman's love ones.

Power and Abilities
Although he does not possess superhuman powers, the Joker uses a variety of dangerous weapons as such, flower on his pocket which contains acid, poisonous gas, guns, bombs and many more. Some writers depicted him as a skillful fighter, some stated that he is so fragile where one punch can finish him off. Still he is a very agile person. His insanity proved to be an assets for his ingenious ability to use weapons effectively against powerful superheroes, including Superman and supervalians too.

Dr. Doom (Marvel Comic)

Victor von Doom was known as Fantastic Four archnemesis. His only purpose was to rule the world. He is several times shown to battle other Marvel heroes like the Hulk, Spider Man, X-Men, the Avengers and villains as well like Magneto. He is shown to have great intelectual skills. There are times where he gets jealous of Reed Richards who is depicted as the smartest man on the planet. He hated Reed Richards more than anyone and often blamed Reed Richards for disfiguring his face. He was considered the 4th greatest villians in Wizard Magazine.

Power and Abilities

What makes Dr. Doom so formidable is because of his intellect. He is shown to built many robots capable of battling the Fantastic Four. He is capable of projecting electric bolts and blasts of energy from his gauntlets. In addition, he possessed limited magical skills. He is considered as one of the genious in Marvel universe.

Palpatine (Star Wars)

In Star Wars film, Darth Vader was the popular figure. Little did people know that behind the fall of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, Palpatine was the mastermind and engineered evil schemes to bend the universe to his will. For those non-Star Wars fan, a little introduction to Star Wars universe. The universe is inhabited by various races. The guardian of universe, the Jedi protect the universe from treats. The Jedi draw their power from The Force. However there are some who craved for power and fall into the dark sides. A series of events lead to the formation of Sith Order. However that order were destroyed among themselves and the Jedi stood victorious. Star Wars episode 1 start 1000 years later. Those who are interested, watch the movie, I can't eleborate too long. Now back to Palpatine, at the first episode he elected as Supreme Chancellor of the universe through deceives and lies. In episode 2, as Darth Sidious he engineered the Clone Wars. Finally in episode 3, he finally exact his revenge against the Jedi Order as a Sith Lord. He also succeeded in converting the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. Throughout episode 4, 5 and 6 he ruled the universe with an iron fist. Later on he was ultimately defeated in the Battle of Endors when Anakin Skywalker returned to the light by tossing the Emperor into a reactor and sacrificing his life in return. Finally the prophency of the Chosen One is completed. Palpatine or Darth Sidious is considered as third greatest villain in Wizard Magazine.

Power and Abilities

Not only Palplatine possessed high intelect, he is able to manipulate good or evil beings throughout the universe. These are the qualities which make him the best candidate the exact the revenge of Sith against the Jedi. He is like a dejarik master by moving the pawns, influencing the course of events which leads to his ultimate success. Not only he is a genious, but he proved to be one of the best swordsman in universe. He came to a draw with the Grand Master Yoda in a sword duel. Before the battle with Yoda, he fought a battle with Master Windu accompanied by three other Jedi Masters. He is able to struck down the three Jedi Masters with ease. Mace Windu is shown to defeat him using the 7th fighting form, Vaapad. However, speculations come out with Palpatine merely feigned defeat to draw sympathy from Anakin Skywalker and seduced him to the dark side.

Form 6 and University

Whenever someone said he/she is going Form 6, we tend to ask, "You are going local university?" Now that is the part where I don't understand. In my previous post, I stated that STPM is considered the toughest examination in the WORLD. Why must our choices be limited to local universities only? If A-levels students can study abroad in TOP UNIVERSITIES around the world, why can't Form 6 students do so? For the past few days, I have been reading some comments on education. There were voices which state their worries on the current education system. Each year, the number of students who enter universities around the globe is increasing tremendously. Look at our neighbouring country, Singapore. Interestingly, Singapore government is interested in collecting intellectual and smart people around the world. If we look at the statistics, there is an increase in the number of people entering NUS by thousands since last year. You might asked, "Why must we worry about that?" Now if you look back in our fathers' time, graduating from a university is something grand and you will be promised with a good and secure job. But today, getting a degree is just like having a passport to ensure you to have the opportunity just to get a job. People are now looking towards master and even PhD these days. Interestingly, if you go for an interview for a job, you will notice there is a difference between graduating from Harvard and graduating from other universities. When we talk about globalisation, it means there is no boundary in every part of the world. However there is a danger behind globalisation as stated in the book, "The World is Flat". As we get progressive, so is the competition in every part of the globe. It is somewhat similar to the philosophy, survival of the fittest. In conclusion, in education, always strive for the best. Keep your option open. You might think that I have a low opinion on local universities. On the contrary, I am proud and feel honour by our local universities especially MU, once a top university in the world. It's just that in the rat-race society, we should go for the best instead. By the way, for those interested going to universities in England, like Cambridge, University of London, London School of Economics and many more, type this in google, "UCAS". Experience in Form 6

1st Day

Well, I met my friends at Tzong Meng father's shop. I was extremely surprised when I see everyone was wearing black pants and shoes. Oh no. I was embarrassed and cited by some of my friends for not paying attention. Later, we were talking too each other until I met some of my high school friend, Quay Kee Shen, Dominic, Seo, Moi, Yong Kang and many more. Then we entered MHS. Since I know where is the Dewan, I led my friends to the Dewan, but the prefects asked us to go the F6 quad. Phew, another embarrassing moment. Still, bumi mana yang tidak ditimpa hujan. Then, I saw almost ALL the girls wearing black skirts. Phew, this proved that females paid more attention than males (generally). Later, we were standing there and talking until a prefect name Daryl or Darren show his power. Then we entered hall. Listen to ceramah for the orientation. Recess. This is the interesting part, the food there is more or less taste like SFI school food but the toilet, wow. If a person who takes heroine or drugs enters the toilet, I can assured you that the person will immediately regains his consciousness. After recess I immediately bought ties, badges and MHS belt. Some said tomorrow only buy. Later you will see what happen tomorrow. Later, nothing much interesting accept for the whacko and the bomb game. Then school dismissed.

2ND Day

I went to school as usual. Asked my old pal, Kee Shen to show me all the toilets in MHS. Gotta find a clean one. Thanks Kee Shen. Line up at F6 quad and enter the hall. Pn. Salmah giving some talks. Later Mr Mustaffa come. If you come to MHS you should meet him. He is the strictest discipline master I ever known. First move, throw chair and give a warning, DON'T MESS WITH ME. Immediately I respect this guy. Later he called out all the students who wear incomplete uniform, like lack of badges, school tie and belt. I can tell you ALL the SFI, IJC and other schools lack of one or more requirement. That's right, only me, LJW former SFI student completed the requirement. Dominic gave me a thumb up. Later more ceramah. Then we have to returned to our group and prepared a sketch. My team members were quite friendly. Recess. Another ceramah. Later GPK 1 Mr Chong gave his speech. Ask us to be serious with F6. Pressure. Funniest part is he asked all the girls to remember Rashveen or something like that citing that the girls should be aware of him. Hahaha.

3rd Day

I go canteen and talked to Guan Tor, asked him about F6 life. Activities he joined. To my surprised, he joined 6 societies. Respect. Teck Peng and Wei Jian joined in. Talk and talk. Go quad. Still can't remember school songs very well. Enter hall. Ceramah again. Former MHS students gave a talk on university life. Ceramah. Recess. Later visit the whole school. Illuminating tour. Later former SFI and MHS students came. SFI pride, Calvin Tan and Darren gave a few talks. Funny and interesting as well. Calvin slipped when he used the f*** word when he was talking about going tuition from Monday to Friday. The whole hall was filled with laughter. They are four flat students and give us a good idea how to study, STUDY HARD AND PLAY HARD as well. Watch cartoon and hang out more often to release stress. I still remembered they said endolphin (I think so) can be secreted when we watch cartoon and that will make us smarter too. Cool. Later a lecturer from NTU came and gave a talk on NTU. Interesting too. Giving me more reasons to study in Singapore. School dismissed. Hope that I am selected for the 1st class tomorrow, i.e. Beta class.

Well when I received the letter, I kind of knew what will be the results. After all, I must have blow my chance up when I screwed up at my essay part, something about "cotton wool making clothes". Of course straight As would have been nice as it would increase the number of straight As in my school and straight As is a recognition of one person's in academic field. Nevertheless, I have already accepted my failure gracefully. After all, how can EST determine the students' success? Still its been an illuminating lesson for me. Events That Occur in Parliament Live

SCENARIO 1

When I switched to TV 1, Karpal Singh was viciously attacking the Tuan Speaker. The Tuan Speaker clearly made a mistake about the order of the arragement of the questions to be ask in the Parliament. However Tuan Speaker merely defended himself by avoiding those questions. Next, Gobind Singh, son of Karpal sided and joined forces with his father. To the Tuan Speaker dismay, that wasn't enough, Anwar's strong supporter Azmin asked how can the Tuan Speaker guarantee that he won't make the same mistake. Besides, Azmin mentioned about GE political tsunami and he was booed by BN MPs.

Scenario 2

Just when you thought things could not get interesting, Karpal again raised the issues regarding Tuan Speaker's mistake. Then, out of no where the man who had used the word 'bocor' last year at Parliament Bung, Kinabatangan MP insulted Karpal's inability to walk. Karpal, a man who doesn't take insults too lightly, calling Bung, "Big Foot" and Bung replied by calling Karpal "Big Monkey". There are some issues why Anwar Ibrahim, as the Leader of Opposition was never given a privilege to speak first and the MP started to say something about Political Tsunami. The BN MP booed.

Scenario 3

Next our PM complained why such small issue take a very long time to finish. Later he read out a very long facts about what the government is planning to do this year. After that, the Tuan Speaker said no additional time is given to ask question. Lim Kit Siang, as usual a season debator immediately challenged the Tuan Speaker and stating what is the point our PM read all those additional points. Lim Kit Siang also stated is Malaysia Parliament a first class parliament world-wide. That is a rhetorical question. After watching for more than 30 minutes, the show ended.

Opinion

I personally feel that Minister of Information should extend the Malaysia Parliament Live instead of cancelling it. Claiming that the situation was chaotic and an embarrassment is not an excuse. In fact there are other parliament especially in Taiwan, the MPs throw chair and punched each other.

Food Crisis

In response to Teck Peng's recent post on food crisis, I would like to give my opinion regarding this issue. Just when you thought that things couldn't get any worse due to the increase in oil price (exceeded $100.00 per barrel), now food crisis arises. Reports have shown that more than 30 countries are suffering from food shortage and the worldwide food reserve is the lowest in 35 years. When food is scarce people will be hungry. When people are hungry, what do they do? They simply rebel against the government. From that point on, the world be affected whether in the aspect of politics, economy or even social. That is the impact of food crisis. You might wonder why food crisis arises out of no where. There are several reasons why food crisis arises.

1. Increase in oil price.
2. Change in weather.
3. Farmers switching out of cereals to grow biofuel crops which have a higher return.
4. Increase in population on China and Indian as both countries have more than 2 billion people when added together.
5. Global warming due to pollution.

When oil price increase people resort to biofuels. Biofuels depend on food crops to produce energy. Approximately 854 million of people will suffer from hunger. Its not 1 million, 10 million or even 100 million, but 854 million, that makes 1/6 of the world population. Interestingly, the farmers grow biofuels crops instead of food. So we are giving food to our cars now instead of giving it to the malnourished and hungry people. So 854 million people must be sacrificed to make our car move. As an individual, at times, we might felt powerless to resolve such problems. Nevertheless when there is a problem, there is a solution.

1. Continue to practice ways to reduce pollutions. Pollutions cause global warming, global warming cause weather change, weather change cause insufficient crops grown and insufficient crops cause food crisis.

2. Don't waste your food and avoid eating excessively.

3. Avoid buying to extra food for storage as this will further increase food price as supply and demand become unbalance.

Influential Leaders 2007 (by Times Magazine)

1. Vladimir Putin, president of Rusia. Before his ascession to power he was a KGB (security agency, secret police and intelligence agency) member. In 2000 presidential election, he was voted as president out of 10 candidates. He was credited for recovering Russia's from chaos during Yeltsin era, recovering Russia's economy and reducing poverty among the Russians. Not only he had the commanding look on his face, his martial skills, i.e. judo has make him an accomplish fighter. Unlike his previous predecessors he had no intention to rebuild USSR, re-estabilish milatry or political blocs. What really irk him is that the Americans tend to interfere with Russia's affair. Nevertheless, he is ready to improve the strain relationship between Russia and America.

2. Al-Gore, former vice-president of USA. Indeed, unlike other politicians, he resigned from US vice-presidency post and commit himself to save the environment by becoming a prominent environmental activist. In 2007 he was awarded Nobel Peace Prize. In fact he was one of the few politicians who is genuinely concerns for the climate change, rise in temperature on Earth over the recent years and global warming. He also did a documentary on global warming which won the Academy Award.

Hu Jintao, the President of Republic of China. In his early years, he was a hydraulic engineer. In his young age, he made a good impression on Hu Yaobang and Deng Xiaoping (President of Republic of China who modernised China). After elected as president, China's economic continue to prosper and China's global influence had increased. Unlike other politicians, Hu Jintao remains as an enigmatic and serious figure. He tend to keep a low profile and his premier, Wen Jiabao have a more approachable personality than Hu Jintao himself. Hu, being a man of great patience and less ego-driven compared to other politicians has conferred him on certain advantages. Possesing wisdom and ancient philosophy knowledge, he envision a "Harmonious Society". Trying to understand Hu Jintao is like reading tea leaves. When being interviewed by an overseas journalist, why he remain as a mysterious and enigmatic figure, he said, "Its not fair to call me mysterious." Whether mysterious or not, Hu Jintao certainly had served China well especially in China's economic and global influence.

Crucial Moment

Ever since the 12th General Election, many people thought that interesting 'show' is about to come to an end. On the contrary, the 'show' has already started as we speak. It seems the 12th General Election has not only cause BN the loss of 5 states and denying parliamentary voice by 2/3 but also there might be a slight chance where BN will be the opposition instead. We all know that PKR de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim just need about 30 seats to take over the federal government. Within these few days, Anwar is sighted going to Sabah to convert BN MP into PR side. Our PM is constantly asked to step down by several UMNO top guns especially the 'Minister Tormentor'. Unlike Lee Kuan Yew who is well known as the Minister Mentor, Tun Dr. Mahathir was cited by some people as 'Minister Tormentor'. Now the bickering with BN will certainly add an advantage to Anwar's side. Anwar could just watch at the bickering while he attracts the support MP from BN. In Malaysiatoday, there is a statement which state that Najib long for the PM post. During a meeting, our PM whispered in Najib's ear, “You ni tak sabar nak jadi PM ke?”. Malaysiatoday stated that Najib did not see this coming and his face turns pale and he could just wait for his time to be PM when Anwar, Mahathir and Abudullah, the three titans clash. But he will never know what Anwar has under his sleeve. Anwar is hoping that Abdullah remains intact as the PM before he steps into the parliament, not as Leader of Opposition Party but the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

A-Levels VS Form 6

Ever since my suprising move to go Form 6, I received a mixture of feelings from various friends. However majority seem opposed with my decision. So, I will counter each facts which go against Form 6.

1. A-levels is perhaps most prestigious examination in the world.

That statement is true, but since STPM is consider as the toughest examination in the world, STPM is gaining a good reputation.

2. A-levels is accepted by everywhere around the world.

True. However STPM is widely accepted in Commonwealth country, Singapore and even in USA. Which are the country that most of us are likely to study after completing A-levels? Australia, USA, Singapore, England and etc. However those who took A-levels have no opportunity to enter local university. Besides, Singapore tends to favour STPM over A-levels in order to gain admission to Singapore universities.

3. A-levels enable you to study in other state, you will be more independent.

Partially right and partially wrong. Living outside this day doesn't mean you are independent. If you are hungry, you can eat at cafeteria, kopitiam or restaurant around your college, you don't have to cook. If you want to wash your clothes, you can send the clothes to a 'dobi' shop, you don't have wash your clothes. In the place you live, some stayed in hostels and rent a place to live in. I am sure the room where you live contains an air-con. Look at the comfortable life of colleges this day. You don't have to go market to buy raw food, you don't have to cook, you don't have to wash the dishes, you don't have to wash clothes with bare hands and cold water, scrubbing the clothes, you don't have to worry about the place you live in as it is comfortable. The three basics things which ensure humans to survive, according to Abraham Maslow. All these can be easily fulfill if you have sufficient money.

4. A-levels focus more on analytical-thinking skills whereas STPM is more like memorising.

False. Who says memorising alone is good enough for you to scrap an A for any subject in STPM without trying to understand and analysing what you learnt. Without thinking hard enough and just base on your memorising skills, Form 6 will be your worst nightmares.

5. Form 6 is a waste of time.

False. Who said so? Learning is never a waste of time. The more we learnt, the wiser we become. Although the profesion which you might pick in future might not be related to the subjects you take in Form 6, learning a few extra knowledge is no harm. In fact, it can be applied in our daily life too. We can understand our surrounding better.

6. A-level is easier than Form 6.

True and false. That depends on one's perception. Although there are times where people said A-level is easier, that does not mean A-level is easy. Let us not forget A-level is consider as prestigious examination. What makes you think that the question is going to be easy? Remember, without hardwork, we cannot obtain excellent result for our exam.

Last but not least Form 6 is cheaper than A-level.

If we were to look at Malaysia's education system from our parents' time, we can notice a change in the trend. Ask our parents, how many people score straight As in Lower Certificate of Education (LCE), Malaysian Certificate of Education and currently known as PMR and Higher School Certificate (HSC) currently known as PMR, SPM and STPM respectively, how hard the education during their era, how hard they study. Now, the teachers from the said era are retiring or some even had retired. What really concern me now is, "Who is going to replace them? and "Are the newly-trained teachers up to their standard?" There are times where I thought about the retired teachers I've seen, where their invaluable knowledge remain unpass to the future teacher. In next 10 years, some of us will be marrying and some might have children. The interesting question now is, "What will behold for our children's education?" In fact, it came to my sense when one of the retired teachers I met, had told me that Ministry of Education should be asking experienced-retired teachers to pour the knowledge they have to the trainee teachers. It greatly saddened me that these days, many students who scored straight As never consider teaching as a profession. Till today, I still appreciate Mrs. Goh Chee Peng and Mr Yew Gin Gee for teaching extra stuff (form 6 stuff ) which is extremely useful. Since Mrs Goh Chee Peng is retiring soon, I feel bad for the future generations.

Government's Move Against Press (Makkal Osai and Tamil Makkalosai)

If you were to leaf over the newspapers meticulously, you will find out that the Tamil Daily, a.k.a. Makkal Osai's application to renew the licence had been rejected. Home Minister proclaimed that several complaints had been lodged against the daily. Besides that, Tamil Makkalosai was suspended for week for giving "excess coverage" to the Pakatan Rakyat. Further issues such as refusal to release the ISA detainees and giving treatment to Uthayakumar (one of ISA detainees) will give the people more reasons to vote for the Opposition. "The arrogance of power" and "contempt for human rights" will just cause further conflicts between the government and the people. Our government failed to realise what led to their demise in the G.E., instead it further proved the lack of democracy under our government. If BN want to be the government, they must start to win the people's heart back by listening to the people's plight and do what is right.

PR Next Government?

Lately there are speculations involving Pakatan Rakyat might replace Barisan Nasional as government and Anwar Ibrahim might be the next PM if PR form a government. However, BN still proved superior and hold the majority vote. Prior to the defeat in GE, several projects were set up to win the people's heart back. On top of that, BN still control the financial sources of our country. Yet, Azalina infamous move (ending Tourism MOU with non BN states) had received critism from public. Her move will only erode the people's respect in our government and give the voters another reason to support PR. Anwar Ibrahim, knowing that although PR had gained the huge victory in GE, must now focus in the development of the 5 states. However we musn't forget the former PM, Tunku Abdul Rahman's prediction about his successors in years to come. So far Tunku Abdul Rahman's precognitive skills proved to be accurate. He stated that each of his successors will follow his name, i.e Rahman.

Top Scholarships (Bank Negara, Khazanah and etc)

For those who had applied the either Bank Negara or Khazanah scholarships, don't be suprised that you failed to get the scholarships stated. Please be note that last year (2007), only 14 students over the country got the khazanah scholarship. For Bank Negara, they only called up 150 students who are eligible for the scholarship. Out of 150 students, only 50 managed to secure the scholarship. Since there are like 1000+ students in our country this year managed to get straight A1, count the probability you can get the scholarship stated above. Do your math. The only person I know who is called for the interview is Bhavik. From the selection, we can see how strict they shorlist you for the interview. It means not only you need 11A1 and above but also a prefect, active in uniform units and as well as other societies. Good luck to you, Bhavik. For those who failed (including me) to be shortlisted for the interviews, don't get upset. Look at the bright side, at least you don't have to waste your time, knowing that khazanah is giving around 14 scholarships and Bank Negara is giving around 50 scholarships to the students in whole country. If we paid enough attention to the newspaper over the last two weeks, we can see the PM admisnistration had encountered various problems, such as few ministers resigned from the newly elected ministry portfolios, Terrenganu indecisive two newly elected Menteri Besar, our PM was attacked by the former PM, Tun Dr. Mahathir and several UMNO top guns and there are sepeculations involving the former deputy PM, Anwar Ibrahim might be the next PM!!! Yet Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi made an illuminating statement yesterday in the media. He cited that during the 2004 general elections, Tun Dr. Mahathir stated that the overwhelmed victory of BN (covered more than 90% parliamentary seats) will cause the government to misuse the power and claiming that as long as BN retain 2/3 seats is good enough, nevertheless, our PM thought that Mahathir should be celebrating the recent general elections, but he hit back at our PM now. Isn't his original statement contradicting his recent statement? In Malaysiakini, Anwar Ibrahim claimed that UMNO is in turmoil. However, although BN might be in the turmoil moment, PR is no different as well. Although PR might set some promising future, their political ideology are different. For instance, PKR can collaborate with DAP and PAS, PAS and DAP can collaborate with PKR, but can DAP work with PAS? This is the major problem faced by PR if PR manage to to form its own government.

Parliament Scenes to be Released on Live

Although Malaysia people could not attain freedom as much as the Americans in the media aspect, (mainly because our government proclaimed that our society has not attained a mental maturity where it is insensitive to racial issues) our PM had announced that the parliament session will be conducted on live everyday for at 10.00pm on RTM1, starting from 30 April 2008. Since this is the first time we get to see BN vs PR, don't be suprise that sensitive issues, mainly involving racial issues will be touched. The MP will not be prohibited from exhibiting a piece of their own mind. Over the years, our government are wary that Parliament session on live will cause rift between races in Malaysia, mainly because the citing of controversy over a delegate who said Malays would fight "to the last drop of blood" to defend the special rights granted to them as bumiputra under the Constitution. It is envitable that this sensitive issue will be touch when the parliament session go on live. Therefore, I urged all Malaysian that only through unity and unbreakable bonds between all races, will secure our country's peace and prosperity. It is essential that we are not influenced by any party politics which uses our hatred as a tool to attain their own agenda. Remember, it is the product of our ignorance that we should all fear, racism is now in the past, let us all coexist and work together as one, let there be no doubt in each other, all for one and one for all.

JPA Interview

First of all, my apology for not updating my blog because I am busy preparing my JPA interview.

Scenario 1
1. Busy reading the JPA past year question.
2. Get some advice from friends who had been interviewed.
3. Train myself for a couple of hours for the interviews.
4. Read karangan book to refresh my memory.
5. Decide what to wear for my attire. Wanted a coat for elegance. But come to think of it, wearing coat kind of challenge the status of interviewers. LOL. Check the pic.

Scenario 2
1. Reach Politeknik Multimedia. Cool place.
2. Saw a number of students and my only schoolmate, aka Jude.
3. We chatted a while. How nice if we enter together. We would make an awesome team.
Lol.
4. Saw some guys preparing notes as if they are memorising some stuff.
5. Nicholas's and Jude's advise came in handy. Spontaneous is the best policy. SFI studets rule.
6. Enter the building. I am in panel 1, Jude panel 3. Jude entered first. I wish all the best.
7. Sit alone for 20 minutes. Observing some people. A few St. David guys were like talking about the questions asked in the morning session. A few girls were like staring into the thin air. Some were talking among themselves.
8. After that, I kind of have a butterfly in my stomach. Having trouble finding a toilet to pee. Came back to the room, panic overwhelmed me. Some people had entered.
9. Luckily, a St. David guy told me to enter only. Thanks dude.

Scenario 3
1. A Malay woman was asking my whereabout. She said,"Mana budak itu?".
2. I came panting and said, "Sini, sini.". Sit between 2 girls.
3. A St. David guy who know Han Seng started a friendly conversation.
4. I asked each of them about their academic progress.
5. The St. David guy got straight As. Next to him, a Malay girl got all As except EST. Next a chinese school girl who is studying A-levels in Singapore got all A1 except for EST, A2 and GCE-O level, A2. Then of course next to her is me. To my left was a Yok Bing girl, straight As as well and a Mensan member. Phew the girls are strong adversary. Last a Malay guy who got all As except for EST.
6. After analysing my competitors, I chatted with them about their ambition.
7. Phew, whats taking the interviewers so long???
8. I waited for like 45 minutes at there.
9. Finally, the interviewees came out and they gave some tips to us.

Scenario 4
1. Enter the room. Shaked the interviewers hand with a sincere smile.
2. We sit down and they asked, "Adakah anda semua bersedia?"
3. Some never replied. They kind of look shy.
4. 1st question, "Adakah Tahun Melawat Malaysia 2007 berjaya?" Jackpot. Rengga's
teaching came into my mind. Time to unleash my full potential.
5. Since the St. David guy was the 1st person, he started first. Not bad. He got good points. Then, out of no way the girl from Yok Bin (no. 5) speaks. Tak ikut
turutan. However, I decided to give other people a chance to speak what is on their mind. Then, I give a statistcs figure of profits generated through tourism. Then I start giving my points.
6. Later on, they switch to another question, "Adakah iklan-iklan yang bernilai
berjuta-juta ringgit untuk menarik perhatian pelancong berbaloi?"
7. After that, they asked, "Bagaimanakah anda mempromosikan Malaysia apabila belajar di luar negara sekiranya anda berjaya mendapat biasiswa daripada JPA?"
8. Finally, to the english section, "What is your opinion about Malaysia's education system? and "What is your hope for Malaysia education system?"
9. I did not "tembak" anyone that day because they have a little difficulty in expressing ideas, although the St. David guy disagreed with one of my ideas.
10. Previously, I thought that I may meet some strong adversary but I was lucky.
11. After the interviewing process, I quickly took the 1st step to shaked the interviewers' hands and express my gratitude.
12. Wish everyone all the best in their careers and shaked their hands.

JPA Scholars' Plight

For those who have not check out Lim Kit Siang's blog, his post regarding "JPA Scholars' Plight", please do so. Here is what I found out from the blog. A frustrated JPA scholar state his unsatisfying feelings about the policies set by JPA for those who chose medicine. He expressed his dissapointment when our government refused to let students who completed their studies from their post graduate training in world renowned healthcare institutions. However special priority is given to who married with another JPA/MARA scholars, i.e. they get to stay on in overseas. So our government is given priviledges to those chose to pursue romantic relationship instead to those who wanted to improve themselves, support their family, serve the people and country. Wow. It seems my brain had gone rusty due to the long holiday after SPM, because, I can't understand the point of making such 'wonderful' policies. During the JPA officers visit to Ireland, a JPA scholar asked the rationale of the. The officer accused that guy angrily of 'just wanting to earn money'. As I agreed with the frustrated JPA scholar, WHAT IS WRONG WITH EARNING MONEY? Isn't is the taxpayers' money invested on those scholars will be more worthwhile if JPA allow those brilliant students to continue their studies in world renowned healthcare institutions. Won't it be better if Malaysia students' research are published in world? Won't it be better if more competent and brilliant doctors are produced? Won't it be better if Malaysia can recover from its reputation in medical field due to the lack of research? Whether the policies will be abolish and whether the unfortunate JPA scholars get the chance to continue their training, I don't know. One thing for sure is, if the JPA don't change the policies soon, our educational system and medical field are definitely going downhill.

Patriot

Despite my critism against Malaysia's system, I am always a patriot. Although Malaysia may have its ugly side, it remains as a beautiful country, most importantly, a multi-racial country. A country which not only have diverse flora or fauna, unique cuisine, cultures assimilated over the course of history, weather that neither blazes the people to ashes nor causes searing frost bite, pain but above all a country with different races of people who have different cultures, different religions, different languages, etc. Although discrimination of races still happen, we as younger generations must strive to coexist with one another for peace. Peace is a rare anomaly historically. Together, if we stand united, we are virtually indestructible. Look at the election, not only did the Chinese and Indian protest, but the Malays also protest. In fact, analysis have shown that the quantity of Malays who protest is even more than the Chinese and the Indian. So when it concern with race, don't play, play. You play with fire, you end up burning yourself. Still, the main point is I love my country. I may complain a lot of our government but nevertheless, I wish for the better of my country. I may have critise, condemn or complain our government, but I will never do that to our country.

Malaysia's Media

I am forced to express my dissapointment in Malaysia's media efficiency. Recently, the newspaper, i.e. Star, Utusan, etc had reported that Lim Guan Eng planned to abolish NEP. This creates controversy between the state and federal government. The truth is Lim Guan Eng planned to abolish NEP. This is a FALSE statement. Guan Eng said he wanted an open-tender policy. Instead, the reporters intepret that statement as Guan Eng wanted to abolish NEP. Even our PM got the wrong information and slammed Guan Eng immediately without deeper investigation. In the end, justice prevailed and Bernama apologised for their mistakes. That is why I remove my post. Now, from this incident, we found out that Guan Eng was immediately slammed by our PM. This incident imply that no matter what Guan Eng do, whether his plans are beneficial to the Penangites, the federal government are ready to attack him. Next, if you read Utusan, there are a lot of one-sided comments which criticised heavily on Penang's CM. If we were to make an observation on the Malaysia's media, we noticed that the newspaper tend to report one-sided news. Any services or contributions made by the Opposition party were never reported. This is due to Printing Presses and Publications Act. Here is a quote from wikipedia :

In the weeks prior to Operation Lalang, The Star had continuously provided transparent news coverage about the Opposition's point of view. This construed treason as far as the UMNO government was concerned, and they were shut down under Malaysia's repressive sedition laws. The Star resumed publication months later under a completely different management that was installed by UMNO. Most of the previous staff of The Star were laid off or otherwise threatened with prison and ISA. From that point onwards, The Star, as well as many other media outlets in Malaysia, became government-controlled mouthpieces with an obvious pro-government slant. These media outlets were also noticeably whitewashing all of the UMNO government's wrongdoings and corruption. All the cover-up and whitewashing by the mass media became more obvious towards the late-90's, when another power struggle within UMNO (the Mahathir vs Anwar episode) revealed the extent of corruption and crimes among the UMNO executive that have never been revealed or reported.

Malaysia presses are not as free as India, England or America presses. There are many voices which express their concern in Printing Presses and Publications Act and hopes to ban it. Luckily, internet is a useful source of information. Malaysia government had not ban or control the flow of information in the net. Thus, Opposition utilises this opportunity to provided transparent news coverage about their point of view.

The Greatest Defeat

Throughout my life, I faced hardship to earn victory. However, today was my greatest defeat I have ever face in my entire life. I score 9A1 and 1B3 in my SPM, 1B3 in EST. The devastating result marked my ultimate failure in gaining a straight A1 result. Around 11.00am, Mr. Yong called out the name those who get straight A's. My heart was thumping fast when I was not listed as one of the straight A's studemt. The feeling was anguish beyond pain which no words in this world could have described. It was as if something important in me had vanish forever. When Pn Juliet called out my name, she hid the result slip from me and said sorry for my result. Imagine the hope placed on you by your parents, teachers, schools and friends was shattered into pieces. The stain of the B3 had robbed my joy and will always taint in my memory forever. Later, many people had comforted me by saying SPM is no big deal and life must go on. Sure SPM is no big deal, but to me it was one of my championship which I yearn for. It is like winning the election for the presidency post to the politician, it is like a WWE champion title to a wrestler, it is like winning American Idol to the contestants. Although I got a chance to remark and have the opportunity to get an A2 or A1, the B3 had took my victory away for good. It was like a phyrric victory. The casualty was so great that nothing could have heal nor bring back the joy which once I seeked. It was lost in the abyss of darkness. The streak of victory was destroyed. This day will always remind me that hardwork is no guarantee to good results. It will also remind me what was ultimate loss felt like. A day back, I thought that my greatest fear was loss but it dawn to me that it was the arrogance born out of the victory gained had my cold feet. I knew that this loss will be an invaluable lessons and will be my guidance when I faced hardships in my life. I will keep on fighting for my future and never give up. Thank you to those who had supported me in my life.

Political Awareness

General election is around the corner. Politics are the main subjects among the adults this day. Indeed this is a normal scenario that happen in every election regardless any country. Research had shown that ethnicity contributes to significant differences in Malaysian youth perspectives. For instance, the majority of the ethnic Malay, Indian, and non-Muslim Bumiputera feel they are free to speak what they think, while Chinese respondents disagree at 50%. When asked if Malaysians are treated equally by the government, the majority of Malay and non-Muslim Bumiputera agree, but 59% of Chinese and 58% of Indians disagree. 53% of young people do not wish to be involved with politics, with findings being significantly higher among ethnic Chinese and Indian respondents at 75% and 68%, respectively. Survey had also shown that most students (above 21) who study abroad chose not to vote. Many youngsters chose to exile themselves from the politics. Some even had the perception that political exposure is a futile effort. Don't be curious but there are some people who did not know who is our PM!!! Through the involvement in politics, our mental view of the relative importance of things is widely broaden. Politics mould the way people live together and gives due weight to the individual's right within a society. Politics also enhances the standard of living of society as politicians are able to take care of the community interest. Politics not only provides education for younger generations but also improve the quality of the education system to adapt with the progress of modernisation. Furthermore, politics provides unemployment benefits, for public transport, refuse collection, policies which can make an impact in one's country economy and many more. Some might have even considered politics as the art of getting and keeping power, is so old that it has been effectively programmed into our brains by evolution. It is impossible for anyone to avoid politics unless they live in a secluded area. Many of us are ignorant with many historical facts. For instance:

1. The greatest world war that errupted in 1939 ravaged many countries'

economy. One example is Germany is divided into two parts i.e. West

and East Germany which causes an imbalance in the said country's

economy. However, in 1989 the fall of Berlin Wall which was the first

step to German reunification is considered as one of the ten flattening

force in the book "The World Is Flat".

2. The Cold War which resulted from the conflicts between US and

Russia leads interstate wars, ethnic wars, revolutionary wars, refugee

and many more.

3. The Asian Financial Crisis which struck about more than 10 years ago

caused economy decline in many countries. The crisis causes an increase

in poverty, bankruptcy, currency losses and riots in some countries.

These few issues requires immediate political resolutions. Imagine the endless possibilities of the consequences of the political figures' action. We may now live with ordinary, decent and peaceful life. However, we are ignorant with the fact that peace and prosperity are a rare anomaly historically. One should also pay attention to the progress of poltical development in other countries. For instance, the great battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the presidency seats could cause a huge impact on the world whether in the political or economics aspect. Both having different ideas and presenting different policies to the American. The senator from Illinois is gaining a strong momentum and support from his recent win. However the senator from New York proved to be formidable as well by winning Ohio. Now Texas is showdown between the senators. Both have their own agenda. Will their own agenda create peace and unity for humanity or the downfall of civilization. We as ordinary people can only hope that their motives are pure for humanity sake. Although some times we are helpless against political decisions, do not feel hopless. Although we might be shrouded in darkness, there will always be a tiny light that shines within the darkness. Hope will always remain. Let us all pay heed to the progress of politics be it in our own country or other countries. We would not want waking up in one morning finding out that nuclear war was declared, terror attacks and martial law was declared and inflation was beyond control, without the slightness clue how it happen. However, some might say ignorant is a bliss.

"Nerds"

The word "nerds" has brought to my attention a long time ago. In fact speaking of the nerds, there have been some biased opinion about nerds.
According to Oxford Dictionary nerd is defined as a foolish, feeble, or uninteresting person. In our society, we tend to defined nerds as people who study diligently all the time without involving in activities actively.
In my life, I have met people who have low opinion of nerds. There are some who had quoted that being a nerd doesn't help you to have a highly paid salary, luxurious life, a CEO or a director in a company. The worst I had heard those science class students who studied hard but ended as a surbodinate to those people who had promptly critisising them.Well, from my perspective those people who look down on "nerds" or science class students who study diligently, they are just jealous and envy of them. The truth is being a nerd requires an intense discipline, strong mind and inmovable faith.
1. Who had introduced the theory of relativity which have the
development of nuclear energy?
2. Who created the Big Bang theory?
3. Who had created the very first light bulb which utilises the use of
electrical energy which in turn leads to the creation of electronics
stuff?
4. Who are the people who explore the space and universe for the greater
cause of mankind?
5. Who are the people who invented all the marvelous equipment or
technology which improved our lifestyle?

In the end all the questions will lead to one answer. Being a "nerd" doesn't mean that we can't be rich or powerful but for the benefits of mankind we had devoted our life in our work. Plato once a wise philosopher stated that a country should be run by philosophers Why?
Because philosophers are people who can think what will be the best for the people as they are wise. During my secondary school life, a number of my friends have been quoted as nerd. I myself was one of the people who had been oppresed. Being a nerd doesn't mean we are weak or sissy. It means we are wise. We know what is at stake. For our future, we have got to be nerds to excel. Here are some people who work HARD and SMART to be sucessful.
1. Ananda Krishnan being the CEO of Maxis and second richest man in
Malaysia was a Harvard graduate.
2. Barack Obama, a senator in US and a candidate of presidency post this
year was a Harvard graduate.
3. President Hu Jintao was a former engineer and graduate of Beijing
University before becoming one of the most powerful political figure in
the world.

Well, people, think again before critisising. Be proud of being a "nerd".
Please be note that Malaysian tend to describe people who study all the time as "nerd". This contradict the original meaning of nerd in Oxford dictionary. By the way Wei Di, if you read my blog, don't be shy being a "nerd". Be proud.

Well since "Uncle" Loo brought up the subject about the way I decorate my blog, I have no choice but to respond to his inconclusive statement in my chatbox. It is true that my blog lack of certain element that attract the attention of other bloggers, however we both know that appearance can be deceiving. Example:
1. Being a Harvard graduate does not mean you can achieve true success.
Bill Gates being the perhaps richest man in world chose not to enter
Harvard despite the fact he was accepted into Harvard.
2. During Alexander the Great conquest to defeat the Persian army, he
only possessed 40,850 army but the Persian army outnumbered
Alexander the Great army by 59,150 infantry. Through great strategy,
Alexander the Great won the battle decisively.
3. Wal-mart started from a small single retailer shop. But today, Wal-
mart is the most feared by its competitor and largest retailer in the
world.
4. Being 17 does not mean you can't be American Idol ultimate winner.
Look at David Archuleta performance.
5. When Thomas Edison was asked by people about his failure to
approximately 2000 times to create light bulb, he merely replied
"I just tried 2000 ways to create a light bulb before finding the right
one".

Well, from my perspective I believed blog is a medium to convey one's opinion not a tool to display one's creativeness to decorate his blog. Well
